Are there any special interfaces required of the power supply This would be any power-down interrupts, etc., that may be required by any of the product s circuits. [Pg.2]

The phrase "nuclear power" covers a number of technologies for producing electric power other than by burning a fossil fuel. Nuclear fission in pressurized water-moderated reactors—light water reactors— represents the enrrent teehnology for nuclear power. Down the line are fast breeder reactors. On the distant horizon is nnclear fusion. [Pg.105]

Early in the program, critical components (e.g.,the turbomolecular pump) and circuit boards were tested for their ability to survive neutron and gamma irradiation rates and doses similar to those that would be received from exposure to the detonation of a tactical nuclear device. All components were powered up at the start of the gamma irradiation tests but not during the neutron irradiation tests. Circuit boards were protected by circumvention circuits that powered down critical circuits in 10 to lOOps upon detecting radiation. All components survived the nuclear radiation tests. This unusual performance was noted with positive commendations by the staff at the White Sands Missile Range, where the tests were performed. Tests of the fully integrated CBMS II system, installed in a reconnaissance vehicle, will be conducted in the future. [Pg.85]

The concepts of solar power satellites were being worked on in the 1960s, but there were a number of problems impeding them. The SPS concept was considered impractical due to the lack of an efficient method of sending the power down to the Earth for use. This changed in 1974 when... [Pg.278]

The PWR DN command activates the power-down mode. In this mode, aU the analog blocks are switched-off reducing the power consumption from 20 mA (aU blocks of the chip are active, microhotplate at 300 °C) to 2 mA (only digital blocks are active). [Pg.70]

The performance of the temperature controller was measured in the tracking mode. Figure 6.18 shows a graph, where the temperature of one of the three microhotplates is kept at a constant temperature of 300 °C, the temperature of the second microhotplate is modulated using a sine wave of 10 mHz, while rectangular temperature steps of 150 °C, 200 °C, 250 °C, 300 °C, and 350 °C have been appHed to the third microhotplate. Temperature measurements on one of the hotplate that has been operated at constant temperature in the stabihzation mode showed a variation of less than 1 °C, even though the temperature of the neighboring hotplates was, at the same time, modulated dynamically (sine wave, ramp, steps). This is a consequence of the individual hotplate temperature control, without which thermal crosstalk between the hotplates would have been clearly detectable. The power dissipation of the chip is approximately 190 mW, when all three hotplates are simultaneously heated to 350 °C. In the power-down mode, the power consumption is reduced to 8.5 mW. [Pg.103]

Power-down test to determine how the temperature and humidity uniformity is affected during a power failure... [Pg.247]

The power-down test is meant to simulate how temperature and humidity uniformity are affected during a power failure. During the test, the main power to the chamber is turned off and the conditions within the chamber are recorded every minute until the temperature and/or humidity exceeds the chamber set-point tolerance limits at every sensor location. The data collected from this study are used to determine how the chamber is affected by a power failure. It is also informative to continue to record the chamber conditions once the main power is restored to determine the length of time required for the chamber to recover to its set-point conditions. [Pg.250]

The NGNP response is described for a 3% per minute ramp in electric power generation. The generator load is decreased from an initial steady state of 100% power down to 50% power over 1 000 s. The pre-cooler and intercooler water flow rates are also decreased to 50%. A detailed description of the controller is given in Vilim (2008). [Pg.423]
