Powder paint

Because of the risk of lead poisoning, the exposure of children to lead-based paint is a significant public health concern. The first step in the quantitative analysis of lead in dried paint chips is to dissolve the sample. Corl evaluated several dissolution techniques. " In this study, samples of paint were collected and pulverized with a Pyrex mortar and pestle. Replicate portions of the powdered paint were then taken for analysis. Results for an unknown paint sample and for a standard reference material, in which dissolution was accomplished by a 4-6-h digestion with HNO3 on a hot plate, are shown in the following table.

The storage and processing of powder paints must be carried out under well-controlled conditions, and preferably away from fire hazardous areas. The powder on mixing with air becomes inflammable and can cause an explosion. Powder paints should be stored at about 2.6 C.

The powder painting techniques have led to considerably lower working costs. The following costs for solvent painting have disappeared with the use of powder painting.14...

A further use of cadmium pigments is in paints and coatings (powder paints, silicone resins, and automotive topcoats) but this is declining.

Pick either red or blue powdered paint pigment. Add the powdered paint pigment to each test tube until no more pigment will dissolve. 

Among the emerging pollutants of industrial origin, Bisphenol A [2,2 bis(4-hydroxydiphenyl)pro-pane] (BPA) has special relevance since it was one of the first chemicals discovered to mimic estrogens as endocrine disrupters.147 This compound was first reported by Dianin in 1891.1411 BPA is produced in large quantities worldwide, mainly for the preparation of polycarbonates, epoxy resins, and unsaturated polyester-styrene resins.149 The final products are used in many ways, such as coatings on cans, powder paints, additives in thermal paper, in dental composite fillings, and even as antioxidants in plasticizers or polymerization inhibitors in polyvinyl chloride (PVC). To a minor extent, BPA is also used as precursor for flame retardants such as tetrabromobisphenol A or tetrabromobisphenol-S-bis(2,3-dibromopropyl) ether.150 This substance can enter the environment...

Powder inhibited paints present no less fire and explosive danger than liquid ones. Although the energy needed for their inflammation is ten times as high as that sufficient for inflammabie soivents, the LCIL of inhibited powder paints is rather low (in the main, 17-35 g/m ). Their self-ignition temperature (325-500°C) is close to that of the majority of organic solvents [17].
