Members are given the opportunity of participating in a technical poster session at meetings where they can exchange ideas in an informal environment. Ideas are presented as posters in an atmosphere where authors and attendees can mingle. Any topic related to chemical hazard communication, in its broadest sense, may be presented at the poster session. Poster Abstracts are published, distributed at the meeting, and posted on the web. The poster session is an excellent opportunity to present ideas and to receive feedback from other hazard communication professionals.

This chapter covers the literature of phospha(V)azenes with discussion of lower valent species being restricted to molecules which can be transformed, or related to a phosphorus(V) derivative. Primary literature, reviews monographs and patents are covered in order to give a global view of progress in this area of chemistry. Full manuscripts and poster abstracts from the Thirteenth International Symposium on Phosphorus Chemistry (Jerusalem, 1995) have been published. Highly focused reviews will be cited in the appropriate sections below. 

Distinctive featnres of the conference are that aU attendees stay in the same hotel, that no parallel sessions are presented and that the posters may be discnssed throughout the entire week. A total of 35 invited lectures have been given, eight of which were selected from the snbmitted poster abstracts. Moreover, 114 posters were presented, mostly by research stndents. Most of the invited lectures are reflected as written contributions in this issne of Macromolecnlar Sjmposia. In addition, the six gronps of anthors, who received most of the votes dnring the election of the poster prize winners, were also invited to contribnte to this volnme. It shonld be noted that aU conference attendees could participate in the voting procedure for the poster prizes. 

Finally, one very useful review source arises from a series of international meetings held biennially since 1982, the so-called Polymer-supported Organic Chemistry (POC) meetings. The proceedings of these have been published regularly and comprise poster abstracts as well as oral presentations [21-26]. POC 92 was subsumed into an lUPAC Symposium, the proceedings of which have also been recorded [27].

Attractive features of the use of sodium to destroy chemical warfare agents are mentioned in the poster abstracts of Sokolowski and Bilger and of Bunnett (this volume). A potential problem is that adventitious acids that might somehow mix with the products will convert sodium arsenide (Na3As) to the extremely toxic arsine (ASH3). Conversion of Na3As to a much less toxic arsenic compound should immediately follow the sodium treatment.
