Polysiloxane coating resins

These materials are usually prepared in two stages. In the first, low molecular weight intermediates are formed. In the second, the intermediates are reacted with other resins possessing functional groups, like alkyds, polyesters, or acrylic resins. The most common low molecular weight intermediates are  [Pg.353]

Siloxane containing polyester, poly(alkylene oxide) and polystyrene type copolymers have been used to improve the heat resistance, lubricity and flow properties of epoxy resin powder coatings 43). Thermally stable polyester-polysiloxane segmented copolymers have been shown to improve the flow, antifriction properties and scratch resistance of acrylic based auto repair lacquers 408). Organohydroxy-terminated siloxanes are also effective internal mold release agents in polyurethane reaction injection molding processes 409). [Pg.74]

Titanates are valuable in other paint applications. Corrosion-resistant coatings have been described for tinplate, steel, and aluminum (440—444). Incorporation of phosphoric acid or polyphosphates enhances the corrosion resistance. Because titanates promote hardening of epoxy resins, they are often used in epoxy-based paint (445). Silicones (polysiloxanes) are often cured by titanates. Pigments, eg, Ti02, Si02, Al O and Zr02, are frequently pretreated with titanates before incorporation into paints (441,446). In these applications, the Ti(OR)4 compounds are often mixed with Si(OR)4, Al(OR)3, Zr(OR)4, and other metal alkoxides (12). [Pg.161]

Titanates have been instrumental in the bonding of fluorinated resins to packaging films, poly(hydantoin)—polyester to polyester wire enamel, polysulfide sealant to polyurethane (a phosphated titanate is recommended), polyethylene to cellophane using a titanated polyethylenimine, and silicone mbber sealant to metal or plastic support using polysilane (Si—H) plus polysiloxane (Si—OR) and titanate as the adhesive ingredients (450—454). Polyester film coated first with a titanium alkoxide, then with a poly(vinyl alcohol)—polyethylenimine blend, becomes impermeable to gases (455). [Pg.161]

It is well known that organosilicon compounds do not become equally well attached to all mineral substrates. While silicates always readily lend themselves to coating with silane and polysiloxane [19-21], the same cannot always be said of calcium carbonate [19, 20]. Calcium carbonate (calcite), a widely used filler, is generally considered difficult to cover with silanes. Given the proven, good attachment of silicone resin to calcium carbonate fillers in silicone resin emulsion paints [2, 22], the question arises as to whether only higher polymeric siloxanes are able to form hydrophobic protective coatings on calcium carbonate. [Pg.827]

Further work by Armstrong et al. [2] extended the use of the derivatized cyclodextrins to the examination of biomarkers. Another example of the use of chiral chromatography for essential oil analysis is depicted in figure 6.11. The sample was taken from the head space over 0.5 g of Juniper leaves contained in a 7 ml vial. The essential oil vapor was sampled in the manner described previously, employing a quartz fiber coated with a polysiloxane resin. The fiber was exposed to the vapor for 20 min at 40°C and the sample desorbed in the column sampling system at 250° for 1 min. It is seen that two enantiomeric pairs were separated,... [Pg.159]
