GC column A capillary column of intermediate polarity can give adequate resolution of isomers as well as unsaturated compounds. Many such columns are commercially available. These include 105 m long x 0.53 mm ID, Rtx-502.2 60 m long x 0.75 mm ID, VOCOL 60 m long x 0.53 mm ID, DB-62 or equivalent. Other capillary columns include 95% dimethyl-5% diphenyl polysiloxane coated columns, such as DB-5, SPB-5, Rtx-5, AT-5, or equivalent. These columns are also suitable for separation of a number of nonhalogenated organic compounds of intermediate polarity. [Pg.147]

TOF-SIMS studies on impregnating mixtures suggest enrichment of the more reactive component in the uppermost polysiloxane layer. Furthermore, the results obtained from combination of TOF-SIMS and DRIFT indicate stronger interaction between stone surface and the polycondensate formed from the silane mixture as compared to the siloxane system. In order to confirm the trends, surface analysis will be extended to larger numbers of samples. In general, combination of different analytical techniques for systematic studies on the structure of polysiloxane coating and its interaction with mineral surfaces will be a main subject of future investigation. [Pg.536]

Alumina is as mechanically stable as silica, but is hydrolytically more stable, especially in the alkaline pH range. Therefore it is attractive as a carrier for reversed-phase surfaces. However, no surface-derivatization technique comparable to the silanization of silica is available. Coating techniques have been developed by Schomburg et al. (27), which add a stable hydrophobic polymer to the alumina surface. The most popular packing type, which is available from several sources, is alumina coated with a crosslinked polybutadiene. The second commercially available type is obtained by applying a polysiloxane coating to the alumina. [Pg.313]

Work in this area involves applying polysiloxane coatings on inorganic substrates as has been done on silica, Al Og/GaAs, and the channels in microfluidic devices. Variations include sol-gel blends of PDMS and titania and titania coatings on PDMS. ° PDMS cores have also been coated with poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) shells to give thermoresponsive microspheres. ... [Pg.131]

ABSTRACT The corrosion protection capabilities of sol-gel-based polysiloxane coatings applied to surfaces of pure aluminum and of aluminum alloy AA7075 prepared from different starting molecules have been evaluated with electrochemical methods. A rating of the studied polymer coatings could be deduced and correlated with the hydro-phobicity of these coatings. [Pg.99]

The low temperature adsorption/desorption isotherms of nitrogen of pure MCM-41 silica and MCM-41 coated with OV-17 polymer 13 %, 20 % and 33 % by weight are shown in Fig.l. All these isotherms exhibit capillary condensation at a relative pressure p/po = 0.4, what is usually observed for MCM-41 materials. Moreover, one can observe that the increase of the siloxane phase causes flattening of the first step on the isotherm. In comparison to the isotherm on pure siliceous MCM-41, these condensation steps in the relative pressure range p/po = 0.35 - 0.45 for samples with polysiloxane coating are less pronounced. This is a result of penetration of the primary pores by the siloxane molecules and consequent the decrease of the pore diameter and the pore volume. All adsorption/desorption isotherms in Fig. 1 exhibit the presence additional hysteresis loop above p/po = 0.9, which may be ascribed to interparticle space. [Pg.433]
