The high polymeric substance called silicone (the name was suggested by Kipping), which contains a silicon-oxygen skeleton, is a valuable synthetic material. Stationary phases in capillary SFC [30] are usually based on a polysiloxane backbone, cross-linked by means of a free-radical initiator, and methyl, phenyl, octyl, biphenyl, and cyanopropyl substituents are incorporated into them. One is siloxane polymers, of which OV-1, SE-30, DB-1 (100% methyl polysiloxane) and OV-17, OV-275, DB-1701, DB-710 (mixtures of methyl, phenyl, and cyano) polysiloxanes are the most popular.
