Amorphous PET is transparent with light transmittance ranging from 80% up to 92%, haze of roughly 0.3-1.3% and a refractive index of about 1.575. Glass Polymers are specially designed to mimic thick glass for packaging cosmetics and healthcare products. [Pg.418]

The synthetic polymers based on N-acryloyl amino acid-derivatives developed by Blaschke in the 1970 and transferred to silica-bonded phases in the 1980 are especially useful for the separation of 5- and 6-membered N- and O-heterocycles with chiral centers (Review in Kinkel, 1994). Their wide chemical variety has been intensively exploited by Bayer Healthcare for their portfolio of chiral molecules. One example of this approach has been published in a joint work of Merck and Bayer (Schulte, 2002). This work explicitly shows how important it is to screen different intermediates in addition to the final dmg compound. Due to different selectivities and solubilities, the productivity for the preparative separation can be dramatically different. [Pg.91]

During the past century, petrochemicals have become a vital part of industrial and economic activity around the world. Synthetic polymers are an important part of numerous industrial products, consumer goods, and healthcare applications. Materials such as polystyrene, polyester, and polyvinyl chloride are used in an enormous range of products across a wide variety of market sectors [5]. Textile production, food packaging, construction materials, and communication and entertainment technologies are all reliant on a plentiful supply of plastics. Petrochemicals have also been used extensively as food preservatives, vitamin supplements, refrigerants, antifreeze solutions, cosmetics, detergents, pharmaceuticals, and disinfectants. Chemicals derived from oil have enormous industrial, economic, and social importance. [Pg.33]

Plastics have become an integral part of oiir lives. Plastics are an excellent and very useful material and they are functional, hygienic, light, and economical. Using a key polymer processing system, plastics produce diverse products used in packaging, automotive and industrial applications, and also extensively used in medical delivery systems, artificial implants and other healthcare applications, water desalination, and removal of bacteria, etc. [Pg.18]

Viscose fibres are man-made fibres from natural ceUulosic resources they are thus biodegradable and have the same health and safety properties as natural ceUulosic properties, and are widely used in food, medical, healthcare, and hygiene products. In contrast to many synthetic fibres made from thermoplastic polymers, one advantage... [Pg.276]

SAPs can also be divided into synthetic and natural types, with the latter being further divided into two main groups those based on polysaccharides and those based on polypeptides. Natural SAPs are usually prepared by the addition of some synthetic parts to the original substrates, for example, graft copolymerization of vinyl monomers on polysaccharides. Because of their low price and high performance, synthetic SAPs are widely used in many healthcare and hygiene products, and the term superabsorbent polymers usually implies the most conventional type of SAP, that is, an anionic copolymeric network based on partially neutralized AA or acrylamide. [Pg.74]
