Polymer and free

Braun and Schurek [9] assumed that during polymerization a reaction can occur between the polymer and free radicals that leads to the elimination of hydrogen chloride and formation of a double bond. The formation of HCl during the polymerization of vinyl chloride has been observed [10],... [Pg.319]

In addition to the AFR block polymer, there is also some copolymer of methylvinylpyridine and acrylonitrile. The amount of this copolymer varies with both the free radical temperature and the amount of benzoyl peroxide used. At room temperature, the AFR polymerization appears to be the main reaction. Both comonomers in the polymer made with inert polypropylene powder at room temperature are found at much lower levels than in the AFR polymer. Furthermore, the polar polymer made with active polypropylene at room temperature is essentially non-extractable. At 50°C. under the condition used the product isolated seemed to be a 50-50% mixture of block polymer and free copolymer. [Pg.293]

Sugar fragmentation The accepted mechanism is dealdolization, the reverse of aldol condensation. The products are aldols, amino-free polymers, and free amino compounds. [Pg.360]

With the objective of promoting polymer formation at the surface of Ti02 pigments and prevent secondary nucleation, Haga et al. used a diazoic amidinium initiator previously anchored on the mineral surface [213], whereas Janssen used redox initiators [208]. Although real benefit was taken from the nature of the initiator, in particular in the case of hydrophilic monomers like MMA, there was still a competition between the formation of surface polymer and free latex particles in these systems. In both cases, better results were obtained when the monomer was introduced under starved-feed conditions, which enabled a significant decrease in the extent of secondary nucleation. [Pg.91]

PQ Corporation of Valley Forge, Pennsylvania (Seybold, 1992) reported test results using their silica adsorbent, Britesorb-RlOO. In their test, french-fried potatoes were made in a restaurant type fryer. The product was fried for 8h per day. Fresh oil was added to the fryer after so many batches of product. The oil was treated with 0.7% Britesorb R-lOO, mixed for 5-10 min, filtered, and stored overnight to be used the next day. Oil breakdown products, such as polar compounds, polymers and free fatty acids were measured. In addition, oil color and soap content in the oil were also monitored. Most significant differences between Britesorb R-lOO and the other adsorbents were noticed in the soap and polar materials. Results from these tests are listed in Tables 11.3 and 11.4. The results indicate that Britesorb R-lOO is a superior adsorbent compared to other commercially available magnesium and aluminum silicate adsorbents. [Pg.348]

Thus, in alkyd-acrylic systems, the final product contains free acrylic polymer, grafted acrylic-alkyd polymer, and free alkyd resin [95]. Polyurethane-acrylic hybrids present a polymer network formed by acrylic chains linked by both polyurethane chains and pure acrylic connections [76]. [Pg.69]

In early research, tetracyanoethylene (TCNE) had been used as a cathode material to circumvent the corrosion problems prevalent in many existing electrochemical couples using the Na/p"-alumina half cells [24]. TCNE exhibited reversible electrochemical characteristics with a potential over 3.0 V versus Na/Na" and an energy density of 620 Wh kg Recently, most of attention has been focused on carbonyl compounds owing to their favorable electrochemical performance for sodium ions. Despite of carbonyl compounds, other organic electrode materials such as conducting polymers and free radicals have also been characterized for sodium storage. [Pg.657]
