Plot plans development

This VIP is considered by most major engineering contractors to have become standard practice. The 3D-CAD VIP model development should be initiateciin the feasibility phase (FEL-2) after the plot plan has been finahzed and the first issue of P IDs is available. 

The field development imposes dramatic changes in fluid processing at the GCs. As a result, the amount of GC process equipment will more than double, correspondingly, the number of modules will be doubled as shown on the plot plan. Figure 9. The control system requires expansion proportionate to the amount of new equipment. Although this new equipment will be in new modules, it cannot be treated independently because it is closely coupled and highly interactive with the rest of the process. Preliminary plot plans and conceptual equipment layouts must be developed during the Phase 0/Phase 1 work in order to determine the plot requirements and help the estimators visualize the proposed facilities and prepare realistic cost estimates. 

If plot plans and equipment arrangements are not available, the estimator should be able to develop preliminary ones with the aid of Section 6.4.

Definitive and/or appropriation type estimates can be developed in four or six hours with the information normally provided in a Phase 1 package, i.e., P ID s, equipment list, plot plans, arrangement drawings, and single line electrical diagram. 

Once the plant location area and plot plans have been chosen, as explained in Chaps. 5 and 7, the specific site must be selected and developed for installation of structures. Preliminary exploration of the subsurface conditions should be done prior to purchase of a piece of land, since foundation construction may be abnormally high if the bearing load of the underground strata is poor, even though the surface conditions appear satisfactory. Topographical maps of the site to establish plant grades and excavation, together with transportation facility locations, frost-line, and water-table information, are other important site data required. Some detailed aspects of these factors will be presented next. 

The need for housing certain functions of plant operation has been pointed out. The design engineer will usually have the assistance of architects to provide an over-all plan for buildings, open structures, and landscaping. Plot plans and models of process equipment areas are developed and then architectural designs are submitted for the final... 

For in-plant personnel, and especially for offsite persons, the map or the plot plan is an effective way to describe the size and the location of the site. It also helps locate where the emergency has developed. When the risk management program (RMP) was being developed by the companies of the Gulf Coast area, computer-based maps were extensively used to display the areas in and around the plants. 

Civil engineering The plot plan is used to develop grading and drainage plans, holding p>onds, diked areas, foundation and structural designs, and all bulk material estimates. 

Client use The plot plan is used for safety, operator, and maintenance reviews and to develop an as-built record of the plant arrangement. 

Plot plans are generally developed in stages, from the initial concept to the ftilly dimensioned document at the construction issue stage. 

The proposal plot plan, shown in Exhibit 3-1, is developed during the estimate phase of the projea and is used to estimate bulk materials. It is also included in the proposal as a representation of the unit arrangement to the prospeaive client. The proposal plot plan is based on limited information and generally indicates only the principal items of equipment, main supporting facilities, and overall dimensions.
