Plasticizer iodine value

Because palm oil and its products have lower iodine values, the epoxide contents of EPOP are lower than that of ESBO. As plasticizers and stabilizers, EPOP are therefore not expected to perform better than ESBO, but their performance could be made comparable by slight modifications of the formulations. PVC jungle and rain boots plasticized and/or stabilized with EPOP have been produced that are comparable in performance to those plasticized and/or stabilized with ESBO (120). 

Epoxides have received increased attention in view of their interest both as end-products and as chemical intermediates. Epoxidized oils—mainly high-oleic sunflower oil—and their ester derivatives have found important applications as plasticizers and additives for polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Epoxidized esters produced from high-oleic sunflower methyl esters have hydroxyl values of 0, oxirane values of 5.2/ 4.5, and iodine values of 1.7/1.5 (127)... 

Mineral oil in completely filled soft plastic tubes showed bubbles of gas after gamma irradiation. The bubbles were larger at higher levels of radiation. The iodine value also increased after high and low levels of irradiation. 

Specification of test methods for plasticizers is included in ISO standard. The specification is applicable to phthalate plasticizers. The specification includes measurements of color and determination of density, water content, iodine value and refractive index which are subsequent parts of this standard. The methods of determination included in Parts II to V are discussed in separate sections of this chapter.

Linoleic acid li-no- le-ik- [Gk linon flax + ISV oleic (acid)] (1857) n. C18H32O2. cisy c/5-9,12 Octadecadienoic acid. An 18-carbon, straight-chain fatty acid with two double bonds that may be in the 9 and 12 or 9 and 11 positions. It is found in nature as its glyceryl trimester in many vegetable oils and is a starting material for some plasticizers for plastics. It has a mol wt of 280.44, bp of 230°C, iodine value of 181.1. 

Oxirane value (oxirane oxygen) n. The percent of oxygen absorbed by an unsaturated raw material during epoxidation a measure of the amount of epoxidized double bond in a material. The oxirane value and the iodine value are used in evaluating epoxy plasticizers. A high oxirane value and low iodine value are considered to be essential for good performance, but these are not the only criteria. 

Mix the sample and accurately weigh about 20/1V g, where IV is the expected iodine value, into an iodine flask or a 250 ml conical flask. It may be more convenient to weigh the sample into a small glass or plastic capsule and place this in the flask.

Watkins and Pound (104) performed an experiment which illustrates the effect of strain on the magnetic resonance of bromine and iodine nuclei in cubic KBr and KI. These crystals were subjected to plastic deformation (a 22% change in dimension occurred along the 100 axis for the KI crystal) and it was found that the intensity of the resonance line in the original undeformed crystals decreased to 0.4 of its original value for the bromine isotopes (Br , Br , I = and to 0.3 of its original value for the I (I = resonance. 

Special techniques were applied to orient the (CH) in order to attain high conductivities (i.e. values greater than 100 000 S cm [19] and parallel fibrils. Similarly, it is possible to make transparent (CH) film with a conductivity of over 5000 S cm The polyacetylene is produced on a plastic film and stretched together with the supporting material, later it is complexed, e.g. with iodine, under standard conditions.
