Plastic-rich

Table-1 and -2 indicate compositions of input refuse and produced pyrolysis gas components, respectively. Since no flue gas from combustion bed is mixed into the pyrolysis bed, calorific value of the pyrolysis gas shows extremely high. When using the group-m material, plastics-rich group classified by a pre-treatment subsystem, its calorific value is approx. 2.93 x 10 KJ/Nm3 (7000kcal/Nm3), In the steady state of the operation, the gas components showed almost constant. [Pg.523]

Mutual miscibility between plasticizers and polymers is an important criterion from a practical point of view. If a polymer is soluble in a plasticizer at a high concentration of the polymer, the plasticizer is said to be a primary plasticizer. Primary plasticizers should gel the polymer rapidly in the normal processing temperature range and should not exude from the plasticized material. Secondary plasticizers, on the other hand, have lower gelation capacity and limited compatibility with the polymer. In this case, two phases are present after plasticization process—one phase where the polymer is only slightly plasticized, and one phase where it is completely plasticized. Polymers plasticized with secondary plasticizers do not, therefore, deform homogeneously when stressed as compared to primary plasticizers. The deformation appears only in the plasticizer-rich phase and the mechanical properties of the system are poor. Unlike primary plasticizers, secondary plasticizers cannot be used alone and are usually employed in combination with a primary plasticizer. [Pg.130]

Air classification is indispensable in a plastics recycling operation that takes in complex plastic-rich parts from end-of-life durables such as automobiles, computers, televisions, business equipment, and small household appliances [8, 10, 49, 73]. Air classification process steps can also be staged to drop out various materials depending on particle size, shape, and buoyancy. Some advantages and disadvantages of air classification processing are shown next ... [Pg.597]

An initial charge of 2968 g of raw ASR was separated by vibrating screen into the following fractions PUR foam (with contaminated oil), 275 g plastic rich stream. 1906 g and fines, 787 g. The composition of the resulting solvent cleaned products were as follows [Bonsignote et al., 1991] cleaned PUR foam, 178 g PVC7ABS composite, 180 g PP, S4.S g. Due to the size of the setup, no conclusions can yet be made on the effectiveness of such a system. Plans are underway to scale up to a 20 kg pilot lab size separation and solvent extraction system. [Pg.144]

The chemistry of organic sulfur compounds is very rich and organosulfur compounds are incorporated into many molecules. Thiols, or mercaptans as they were originally called, are essential as feedstocks in the manufacture of many types of mbber (qv) and plastics (qv). They are utilized as intermediates in agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals (qv), ia flavors and fragrances, and as animal feed supplements. Many reviews have been undertaken on the chemistry of the thiols, regarding both their preparation and their reactions (1 7). [Pg.9]

In addition to chemical synthesis and enhanced oil recovery, gaseous carbon dioxide is used in the carbonated beverage industry. Carbon dioxide gas under pressure is introduced into mbber and plastic mixes, and on pressure release a foamed product is produced. Carbon dioxide and inert gas mixtures rich in carbon dioxide are used to purge and fiH industrial equipment to prevent the formation of explosive gas mixtures. [Pg.24]

Bronze powders are available for use in plastics in various compositions and particle sizes. Copper is seldom used alone all bronzes contain zinc. The names and zinc content of the common types are pale gold, 8% rich pale gold, 15% and rich gold, 30%. The shades become less red as zinc is increased. The finer particle size grades are generally preferred. [Pg.459]

Let us enter the world of liquid crystals built by the purely entropic forces present in hard body systems. The phase diagram of hard spherocylinders (HSC) shows a rich variety of liquid crystalline phases [71,72]. It includes the isotropic, nematic, smectic A, plastic, and solid phases [73]. In a plastic crystal the particle centers lie on lattice sites, but the orientations of the... [Pg.762]

As shown by several investigations [91], the bromine-rich polybromide phase by itself is hardly flammable and fireextinguishing properties have been reported occasionally. The formation of polybrominated dibenzo-dioxins (PBrDD) and furans (PBrDF) due to the plastic-containing housing of a zinc-flow battery cannot be totally neglected in the case of a fire, but their concentrations are far away from the tetrachloro dibenzodioxine (TCDD) toxic equivalents even in a worst-case scenario. [Pg.191]

The use of pyrolysis for the recycling of mixed plastics is discussed and it is shown that fluidised bed pyrolysis is particularly advantageous. It is demonstrated that 25 to 45% of product gas with a high heating value and 30 to 50% of an oil rich in aromatics can be recovered. The oil is found to be comparable with that of a mixture of light benzene and bituminous coal tar. Up to 60% of ethylene and propylene can be produced by using mixed polyolefins as feedstock. It is suggested that, under appropriate conditions, the pyrolysis process could be successful commercially. 23 refs. [Pg.82]

Details are given of a visit by RECOUP to BP Chemical s feedstock recycling demonstration unit in Sunbury. The feedstock recycling technology has been developed by a consortium of companies, and will enable polyolefin rich plastic waste from domestic and commercial sources to be vapourised and then condensed to form a hydrocarbon wax. This can then be used to feed existing petrochemical crackers to produce polymers indistinguishable from virgin material, it is claimed. [Pg.91]

Sulfur displays rich and varied chemical behavior, but from the commercial standpoint, sulfuric acid dominates the chemistry of this element. Sulfuric acid is used in every major chemical-related industry fertilizers (60% of annual production), chemical manufacture (6%), petroleum refining (5%), metallurgy (5%), detergents, plastics,... [Pg.1532]
