Plastic grass

Reactivity. Bromine is nonflammable but may ignite combustibles, such as dry grass, on contact. Handling bromine in a wet atmosphere, extreme heat, and temperatures low enough to cause bromine to soHdify (—6° C) should be avoided. Bromine should be stored in a cool, dry area away from heat. Materials that should not be permitted to contact bromine include combustibles, Hquid ammonia, aluminum, titanium, mercury, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Bromine attacks some forms of plastics, mbber, and coatings (62). 

Common materials—such as textiles in the form of fibers or fabrics, foamed rubber, foamed plastics, thin sheets of plastic, paper, corrugated cardboard, combustible dusts, dry grass and twigs, and wood shavings—are all examples of materials with large sutface areas in relation to their volumes. In a well-estabhshed fire, materials with relatively small surface areas, such as chunks of coal or logs, burn readily.

Self-heating is quite common, yet it receives attention only when it causes economic losses or leads to fires. Fresh grass clippings in garbage cans and plastic bags heat within an hour or so. Piles of manure and compost always seem to self-heat, as the steam rising from opened piles indicates. Farmers have cause to be alarmed when temperatures rise in hay, silage, straw, cotton,... 

These results suggest that pure aromatic polyesters may function like the long-lived components in humus and may provide useful properties as a soil additive. Grass sod growing studies using municipal-waste-derived compost in combination with chopped plastic fibers demonstrated improved growing rate and root structure development to accelerate sod production. 

Leaf and grass bags, upholstery, bottles, drainage pipe, roofing, flooring, coated fabrics, and siding are all made from polyvinyl chloride, PVC is the consumer product plastic.

Amorphous polymers are those whose chains show no order. They exist in entangled random coils. We have used a plate of spaghetti or a bag of Easter basket grass as crude models for amorphous polymers. Note that, based on their diameters, neither the noodles nor the paper or plastic strands are nearly long enough to represent a polymer chain. However, they become physically entangled when mixed together. 

This lampshade holds a landscape of dried flowers and grass, and a real butterfly, all between two layers of plastic.

The bottom frame is constructed so that the whole unit can be moved on the ground, for instance on grass or on rolling bars. The sampler does not necessarily need a concrete platform—the frame is so stiff that it will even stand on four rocks if necessary. The covers are of GRP, glass-reinforced plastics.
