The book reviews our knowledge of the chemistry and mineralogy of Mo, the extraction of available Mo from various soils, the various analytical methods of determining Mo content in soils and plants, the biochemical role of Mo in crop production, the technology and application of Mo fertilizers to crops, the responses to Mo of various temperate and tropical crops. Mo deficiency and toxicity in various plant species, the interaction of Mo with other plant nutrients, and the distribution of Mo within the plant. Factors affecting the availability of soil Mo to plants and Mo status in the semiarid and subhumid tropics are also discussed. 

Scale-Up Principles. Key factors affecting scale-up of reactor performance are nature of reaction zones, specific reaction rates, and mass- and heat-transport rates to and from reaction sites. Where considerable uncertainties exist or large quantities of products are needed for market evaluations, intermediate-sized demonstration units between pilot and industrial plants are usehil. Matching overall fluid flow characteristics within the reactor might determine the operative criteria. Ideally, the smaller reactor acts as a volume segment of the larger one. Two principal factors affected the U.S. sulfuric acid industry in the 1980s. The first was the increased availabiUty of recovered sulfur vs Frasch sulfur (see SuLFURREMOVAL AND recovery). This occurred because of environmental concerns and regulations forcing more sulfur to be recovered at refineries, power plants, etc. The effect of this change was that the cost of sulfur in the marketplace became driven largely by the cost of nonsulfur industries, rather than by the traditional discretionary sulfur producers, and tended to stabilize U.S. sulfur prices.

Chapter 3, Factors Affecting Human Performance in the Chemical Industry, describes how a knowledge of "performance-influencing factors" (PIFs), can be used to identify and then eliminate error-causing conditions at the plant. 

Diesels, gas turbines and steam turbines are the more commonly used prime movers for the generation of electrical power. Additionally, the steam turbine can be employed in combination with either the diesel or gas turbine for combined cycle operation. Factors Affecting Allelochemical Production or Release and their Modes of Action. This area of research should prove fruitful for the plant physiologists and biochemists who are interested in regulation of plant metabolism. Studies to date have been limited to only a few compounds.
