Pillared hybrids

Material science can also benefit from oligomeric state of proteins. New retinal nano-ceramic materials with pillared hybrid micro-structures were fabricated for potential applications in optical holographic data storage. It was observed that the Schiff bases in retinal have substantial effect on optical properties of nano-ceramic films as well as diffraction efficiency for holographic storage. This study indicates feasibility of optimizing optical properties of nano-ceramic clay systems using Schiff bases for a variety of photonic applications.40... [Pg.464]

N anomaterials have been around for hundreds of years and are typically defined as particles of size ranging from 1 to 100 nm in at least one dimension. The inorganic nanomaterial catalysts discussed here are manganese oxides and titanium dioxide. Outside the scope of this chapter are polymers, pillared clays, coordination compounds, and inorganic-organic hybrid materials such as metal-organic frameworks. [Pg.226]

These clays have been hybridized with diverse structural types of components such as nanoparticles, clusters, complex compounds, polymers, molecules, and ions. Their potential apphcations are found in many fields as inorganic catalysts, adsorbents, ceramics, coatings, and even drug delivery carriers. Various preparation methods have been developed such as pillaring, intercalation, and delamination techniques. The representative examples include organic-clay hybrids," metal oxide-pillared clays, " and bioclay hybrids. ... [Pg.154]

The main type of inorganic-LDH hybrid system comes from intercalation of oxometalates into the interlayer space of LDHs because of the high catalytic activity of both oxometalates and LDHs. Typical synthetic routes are similar to those of pillared clays, as mentioned before. After pristine nitrate/chloride-LDHs are anion exchanged with polyoxometalates, usually at elevated temperatures, the pillared polyoxometalates are stabilized within the interlayer space by calcination. [Pg.163]

The capacity for the second and third steps are reduced and unchanged, respectively, compared to MCM-22. The adsorption data suggest that pillaring leading to MCM-36 increases accessibility of one kind of pores while others (most likely the 10-member channels) are unaffected. The combination of MCM-22 layers with a pillared structure results in a unique hybrid of micro- and mesoporosity, which should lead to interesting applications. [Pg.308]

Compound 1.13 is of interest as the pentaborate ion takes the unusual hybrid role of both host and guest. From an alternative point of view, the pentaborate ion may be considered to participate fully in the construction of the host framework. In that case the resulting architecture resembles a multistoried building supported by leaning slab-like pillars. [Pg.184]

The CFIA Plant Biosafety Office has identified five key areas, pillars, to be assessed for environmental safety (1) the potential of the novel plant to become a weed of the agroecosystem or invasive to natural areas (2) gene flow to wild relatives and potential for their hybrid offspring to become more weedy or invasive (3) potential for the novel plant to become a pest (4) potential impact of novel plant or its gene products on nontarget organisms, including humans and (5) potential biodiversity impacts (CFIA 2004). In addition, the CFIA is responsible for the safety of the food/ feed system (CFIA Feed Section) and does not consider in its assessment the potential influence of a novel plant or its products on Canadian market access. [Pg.145]

The chassis structure of the hybrid low-floor COBRA tram consists of a frame and a floor module, made of welded aluminum (hollow extrusions [3]) (Fig. 32.9). The composite sandwich roof panel is glued with elastic adhesives to the aluminum roof cant rail. All heavy aggregates are positioned on top of the composite roof panel. Due to the foam core, the loads had to be introduced by additional profiles (connected to the roof cant rail) to smoothen any local peaks. The GRP sidewall panels are joined to the aluminum pillars and the major longitudinal extrusions by long running layers of the elastic adhesive Sikaflex -254 Booster. The structural analysis of this tram vehicle proved the structural integrity of the new design for the load history specified. The stiffness of the structure has been sufficient to fulfill all the deformation criteria (Fig. 32.10). Based on these results, the preproduction series of the first six COBRA trams was produced and is in normal service operation an additional 68 trams will have followed by 2010. [Pg.531]

Philosophy of direct application of foreign substitutes of tooth color is based on two pillars, namely RC and GIC, and their various qualitative and quantitative combinations, variations, hybridizations. RC s provide strong arguments for their potentially superior abilities of accurate imitation of the tooth hard tooth stmctures. On the other hand, pejorative resonance still accumulates in the complicated and ineffective over time, especially from the practical point of view, the adhesive technology, and... [Pg.424]

In heterogeneous catalysts, the tailored and pillared cavity is an essential property as it enables the movement of reactants to inner catalytic sites. The mass transfer of reactants and products inside the pores is mainly influenced by the interaction of the internal walls of the channel with organic molecules, and can consequently be controlled by the difference in polarities. To ensure such properties, anchored ruthenium hybrid zirconium phosphate-phosphonates coated with hydrophobic linear double-stranded polystyrene over the inner surface of the Zr layers were prepared by the first complexation of Ru and then molding of inorganic backbone method, and used as the catalyst in the ATH of o-, m- and p-substituted acetophenones (Fig. 42) [121]. This catalyst showed good catalytic activity and enantioselectivity (73.6-95.6 % ees) in the aqueous reduction with FA-TEA as the hydrogen donor, and could retain its catalytic properties after five runs in the case of acetophenone. [Pg.45]

Nanoparticles of Fe304 are magnetic and therefore can be used in absorption and extraction via the magnetic response. Pillar[5]arenes hybridized with Fe304 nanoparticles are expected to show special properties and immense application potential. [Pg.237]
