Phase review

In power conversion, the most obvious conclusion is often the wrong one. At best it may simply not apply. But more often, if we think real hard, we realize it calls for a sea change in the basic laws of Physics. And that s usually when we sheepishly slink out of the phase review meeting, mumbling, I have a quick errand to run, be right back. Surprisingly, we all have been there at some time or the other. 

The Cu(100) ( /2 x 2A/2)R45°-0 surface reconstruction has an oxygen coverage of 0.5 ML, but there have also been many reports in the literature of a Cu(100)c(2 x 2)-0 phase which would also involve a coverage of 0.5 ML. In truth, in quite a number of these earlier reports no ordered structure was actually observed experimentally and the adsorption phase studied was simply assumed to be this previously reported ordered phase. Reviewing this early literature thus requires some care Indeed, a careful study of the relative intensities of the 2 and order...

The evaluation process, sometimes known as stage gates and phased reviews, needs to be accomplished early in the development project life and continue on throughout the life of a project as needed and defined in a contract or integrated project plan. The use of gas-phase biomolecule spectroscopy for structural characterization rehes strongly on the interplay between experiment and theory. Structural properties can usually only be extracted from experimental spectra with the use of high-level quantum-chemical calculatirms. The chapter Theoretical Methods for Vibrational Spectroscopy and CoIUsirai Induced Dissociation in the Gas Phase reviews some recent advances in the theoretical methods applied to predict vibrational spectra, including molecular-dynamics-based methods to model photo-dissociation spectra and DFT-based molecular dynamics to predict spectra in the far-infrared region. The use of trajectory calculations on a semi-empirical potential is investigated as an alternative to transition-state calculations for the modeling of collision-induced dissociation of protonated peptides.
