System safety planning group

Planning tasks are the responsibility of line management and are normally performed by a system safety planning group, supported by the safety staff, and reviewed and approved by corporate and project management. These tasks generally involve developing requirements, policy, and criteria and are discussed in detail in Chapter 9. 

Members of the system safety planning group normally become members of a system safety working group or safety review board. 

Step 4 Organize and train the system safety planning group... 

The following is a sample system safety planning group (SSPG) organization with recommended responsibilities. (Note Circumstances may make it desirable to tailor the composition of the SSPG and/or individual responsibilities.)... 

The system safety planning group either adopts the tasks and products outlined in Chapters 7 and 8 or develops alternatives. This effort should include guidelines for establishing project phases, review points, and levels of review and approval. 

Discuss the rationale for forming a system safety planning group to develop system safety program policies and guidance. 

Step 4 Organize and train the system safety planning group As with any group or committee, organizing to accomplish tasks can be done in a number of ways. All work can be done as a group. This method is usually the slowest and most tedious, but it ensures full participation and keeps all group members informed on all tasks.
