Particle size density

Physical Properties. Physical properties of importance include particle size, density, volume fraction of intraparticle and extraparticle voids when packed into adsorbent beds, strength, attrition resistance, and dustiness. These properties can be varied intentionally to tailor adsorbents to specific apphcations (See Adsorption liquid separation Aluminum compounds, aluminum oxide (alumna) Carbon, activated carbon Ion exchange Molecular sieves and Silicon compounds, synthetic inorganic silicates). [Pg.278]

Ackeskog et al. (1993) made the first heat transfer measurements in a scale model of a pressurized bubbling bed combustor. These results shed light on the influence of particle size, density and pressure levels on the fundamental mechanism of heat transfer, e.g., the increased importance of the gas convective component with increased pressure. [Pg.87]

During the studies carried out on this process some unusual behavior has been observed. Such results have led some authors to the conclusion that SSP is a diffusion-controlled reaction. Despite this fact, the kinetics of SSP also depend on catalyst, temperature and time. In the later stages of polymerization, and particularly in the case of large particle sizes, diffusion becomes dominant, with the result that the removal of reaction products such as EG, water and acetaldehyde is controlled by the physics of mass transport in the solid state. This transport process is itself dependent on particle size, density, crystal structure, surface conditions and desorption of the reaction products. [Pg.200]

The removal of side products such as EG, A A, CO2, water and oligomers is controlled by the physics of mass transport in the solid state. This mechanism correlates with particle size, density, crystallinity, crystal structure and perfection, and surface conditions, as well as the desorption of the reaction products from... [Pg.200]

The objective of AxelTs [11] experimental study is twofold (1) to develop methods to study the combustion process of a packed-bed of biomass (2) to study the effect of mass flow of air on the combustion process in different conditions with respect to fuel particle size, density, and shape. The results are planned to be applied to computer simulations of packed-bed combustion of wood fuels as well as design data for construction of PBC systems. [Pg.74]

The commercial product is usually dark grey powder, but the color may vary from ohve geeen to brown depending on particle size density 6.44 g/cm, which also may vary between 5.7 to 6.7 g/cm, depending on the method of preparation melts around 1,830°C insoluble in water soluble in acids and alkalis. [Pg.247]

When the liquid flow is initiated, the solute zone is carried downstream at a rate depending on the layer thickness, I, which can be related to the particle size, density, diffusion coefficient or thermal diffusion coefficient. [Pg.333]

The values obtained in different laboratories for the activity of various electrocatalysts are not directly comparable. The reduction of oxygen — for which data have been published by various groups — proceeds at the three-phase boundary where gas, liquid, and solid meet. This boundary is affected by such macroscopic properties of the catalyst as particle size, density, surface tension, and porosity. [Pg.139]

This delay will vary according to the nature of the explosive composition, its particle size, density and conditions of confinement. This principle of burning to detonation is utilized in delay fuses and blasting detonators. [Pg.53]

Forewarmed milk or skim milk is concentrated by vacuum evaporation to contain 40-60% total milk solids. The degree of concentration is determined to meet dryer design requirements and is used to control the particle size, density, dispersibility, and solubility of the powder. [Pg.760]

Does extensive blending cause demixing and segregation of components This is important, especially if particle size/density of the powder/granula-tion vary widely. [Pg.783]

Impaction is caused by the inertial mass of the traveling aerosol particles that forces them to move in a straight-line direction even when the flow of the inhaled air transporting them is bent around a curvature. Hence the particles tend to deposit on obstacles placed in the path of their travel. The inertial mass depends on particle size, density, and velocity. The stopping distance S of a particle having mass mP and initial velocity v0iP is defined according to... [Pg.236]

Microcrystalline Cellulose. Microcrystalline cellulose is a purified, partially depolymerized cellulose that occurs as a white, odorless, tasteless, crystalline powder composed of porous particles. It is widely used in pharmaceutical dosage forms, primarily as a filler-binder in oral tablets and capsules with both wet granulation and direct compression processes. Microcrystalline cellulose was marketed first in 1964 by the FMC Corporation under name Avicel PH in four different particle size grades, each with different properties.37 Addition of Avicel into a spray-dried lactose-based formulation overcame compressibility problems. At the same time, the lactose enhanced the flowability of the Avicel products available at that time. The direct compression tableting process became a reality, rather than a concept, partially because of the availability of Avicel. As of 2007, Avicel PH is commercially available in 10 types with different particle size, density, and moisture grades that have different properties and applications (Table 7.6).38 Other brands of microcrystalline cellulose are also available on the pharmaceutical market, including Pharmacel 101 and 102 from DMV International and Emcocel 50 M and 90 M from JRS Pharma. [Pg.175]

Tissue deposits are less available to bark beetle predators and parasites searching the bark surface for their host. Therefore, they offer more specificity toward the target insect. Further, tissue deposits may be easier to reproduce consistently. Unless we acquire better understanding of the factors that control crystallization, we will find it difficult to control the character of surface deposits obtained from solution. On the other hand, the character of wettable powder deposits seems to be more easily controlled (particle size, density). [Pg.213]

Particle behavior is a function of particle size, density, surface area, and shape. These interact in a complex manner to give the total particle behavior pattern [28], The shape of a particle is probably the most difficult characteristic to be determined because there is such diversity in relation to particle shape. However, particle shape is a fundamental factor in powder characterization that will influence important properties such as bulk density, permeability, flowability, coatablility, particle packing arrangements, attrition, and cohesion [33-36], Consequently it is pertinent to the successful manipulation of pharmaceutical powders that an accurate definition of particle shape is obtained prior to powder processing. [Pg.1182]
