Partial system load

Heat losses affect the fuel processor efficiency, especially at partial system load. This becomes obvious when taking into consideration that the reactors of the fuel processor require an elevated operating temperature. This temperature will not decrease at partial load. Therefore heat losses remain constant and become dominant at partial load of the system. Smaller system size has similar effects. [Pg.9]

The prototype power conversion equipment, particularly the rotating components, will undergo shop acceptance tests to the fullest extent possible. These are followed by field tests of the partially to fully integrated power conversion system to verify the turbo-machinery aerodynamics and the system hot functions. To limit power input for cost saving, the field tests are planned at partial system pressures and partial to full tuifiine inlet temperatures, using either conventional or nuclear heaters. For example, the FSNL (i.e. full speed, no load) test, which has the main objective of validating the full-size compressor aerodynamics and efficiency, may be carried out at selected partial or rated conditions as indicated on the compressor performance map (Fig. XVI-5). [Pg.498]

Propellants cast into rockets are commonly case-bonded to the motors to achieve maximum volumetric loading density. The interior of the motor is thoroughly cleaned, coated using an insulating material, and then lined with a composition to which the propellant binder adheres under the environmental stresses of the system. The insulation material is generally a mbber-type composition, filled with siUca, titanium dioxide, or potassium titanate. SiUca-filled nitrate mbber and vulcanizable ethylene—propylene mbber have been used. The liner generally consists of the same base polymer as is used in the propellant. It is usually appHed in a thin layer, and may be partially or fully cured before the propellant is poured into the rocket. [Pg.49]

In stands where partial cuttings are made, cut-to-length systems are used in which a delimber and cut-off saw are incorporated into the sawhead. The products are bucked, separated into piles, and then hauled to the roadside on a forwarder, which carries the whole load. The limbs and tops are left... [Pg.254]

Figure 6-32 illustrates ejector systems with large condensable loads which can be at least partially handled in the precondenser. Controls are used to maintain constant suction pressure at varying loads (air bleed), or to reduce the required cooling water at low process loads or low water temperatures [2]. The cooler W ater must not be throttled below the minimum (usually 30%-50% of maximum) for proper contact in the condenser. It may be controlled by tailwater temperature, or by the absolute pressure. [Pg.379]

The central transport chamber is an 80-cm-diameter stainless steel vessel, and is pumped by a 1000-1/s turbomolecular pump, which is backed by a small (501/s) turbomolecular pump to increase the compression ratio for hydrogen, and by a 16-m /h rotating-vane pump. UHV is obtained after a bake-out at temperatures above 100°C (measured with thermocouples at the outside surface) of the whole system for about a week. A pressure in the low 10 " -mbar range is then obtained. With a residual gas analyzer (quadrupole mass spectrometer, QMS) the partial pressures of various gases can be measured. During use of the system, the pressure in the central chamber is in the low 10 -mbar range due to loading of samples. Water vapor then is the most abundant species in the chamber. [Pg.22]

Preliminary studies into a third variable, the partial pressure of water vapor in the system, are discussed in Part 3 of the Results and Calculations section. Each calorimetric sample ( 1 g, 13.47 mass % bitumen) came from a large sample of "reconstructed" oil sand consisting of Athabasca bitumen loaded onto a chemically inert solid support material (60/80 mesh acid washed Chromosorb W) of well-defined particle size. [Pg.428]
