Partial loading

The first method is used most frequently. The next preference is for the last method, mostly used in small compressors due to problems with speed control of electrical motors. Other means of capacity control are very seldom utilized due to thermodynamic inefficiencies and design difficulties. Energy losses in a compressor, when capacity regulation is provided by lifting the suc tion valves, are due to fric tion of gas flowing in and out the unloaded cylinder. This is shown in Fig. 11-84 where the comparison is made for ideal partial load operation, reciprocating, and screw compressors. [Pg.1111]

Synchronization Control. During startup, partial load is applied to the eddy current brake. The expander is then throttled to a speed below synchronous speed, and the brake voltage controller varied to lower the voltage of the coil, causing a small speed... [Pg.264]

Single-Stage Noncondensing Partial Load at Rated Speed mth No Hand Valve. ° The steam rate at any partial load is obtained by using the full-load steam flow and the no-load steam flow. A Willans line (straight) is drawn between these points, and then the partial load can be determined at any rate. [Pg.678]

Partial load steam rate. Figure 14-31, = partial load steam flow/partial load hp. [Pg.678]

Single Stage Noncondensing Partial Load at Reduced Speed with No Hand Valve. [Pg.678]

Partial Load at Rated or Reduced Speed tenth Hand Valve. ° The hand valves are considered to give the turbine additional ratings (as percent of original rating), and these values may be used as rating points following the oudine given for rated and also for partial loads. [Pg.679]

Reciprocating compressors are classified as constant-volume, variable-pressure machines. They are the most efficient type of compressor and can be used for partial-load, or reduced-capacity, applications. [Pg.562]

The intermittent operation of electrolyzers powered from a wind turbine is characterized by a dynamic power fluctuation with periods of varying overload, partial load, and shutdown. The operation of the electrolyzer below 10% of its nominal power remarkably reduced the current efficiency and the purity of the product gases, inducing the shutdown of the electrolyzer, which was programmed at a safety limit of 2 vol% hydrogen-in-oxygen [52],... [Pg.178]

Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems can reach electrical efficiencies of over 50% when using natural gas, diesel or biogas. When combined with gas turbines there can be electrical efficiencies of 70%, for small installation as well as large. In a fuel cell system, these efficiencies can be kept at partial loads as low as 50%. Conventional technologies must run at close to full load to be most efficient. [Pg.28]

Conventional fuels and drive trains today show some system-inherent disadvantages in real operation, such as unfavourable fuel consumption at partial load (e.g., during urban driving) for ICE or limited driving range of electric vehicles... [Pg.231]

A key element of regulation is the Rev protein. In the absence of the Rev protein, one finds a multiply spliced class of 2S RNA in the cytoplasm that encodes the regulatory proteins Tat, Rev and Nef At this phase the mRNAs which encode structural protein are transported to the cytosol only at a low level. They are furthermore unstable and are only partially loaded with polysomes. [Pg.74]
