As of this writing, there is Httle commercialization of advanced battery systems. Small rechargeable lithium button cells have been commercialized, however, by Sanyo, Matsushita (Panasonic), and Toshiba. These cells are intended for original equipment manufacturer (OEM) use in appHcations such as memory backup and are not available to the general consumer. [Pg.587]

Many computer and other IT device makers offer take-back programs even where not mandated by law. In the USA, Apple, Sony, Sharp, Mitsubishi, Samsung, Hewlett-Packard, Dell, LG, Lenovo, Panasonic, and Toshiba have free collection point or mail-in take-back programs of their products. Apple and Hewlett-Packard provide some form of payment for the value of the taken-back item. Other companies, Hitachi, Phillips, and Funai, do not now have take-backs [23]. [Pg.270]

It is important to double-check the failure criteria of specific vendors. For example, Panasonic SMD capacitors allow for a 30% fall in capacitance by the end of life. That means, for a 20% tolerance capacitor, you need to start with a nominal value 79% higher than your calculated value (also don t forget to account for the additional fall in capacitance at low temperatures). [Pg.100]

Gel polymer lithium-ion batteries replace the conventional liquid electrolytes with an advanced polymer electrolyte membrane. These cells can be packed in lightweight plastic packages as they do not have any free electrolytes and they can be fabricated in any desired shape and size. They are now increasingly becoming an alternative to liquid-electrolyte lithium-ion batteries, and several battery manufacturers. such as Sanyo. Sony, and Panasonic have started commercial production.Song et al. have recently reviewed the present state of gel-type polymer electrolyte technology for lithium-ion batteries. They focused on four plasticized systems, which have received particular attention from a practical viewpoint, i.e.. poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO). poly (acrylonitrile) (PAN). ° poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). - and poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVdF) based electrolytes. ... [Pg.202]

This 4 Mb FRAM utilizes lead zirconate titanate (PZT) as the active memory element a similar prototype has been made by Matsushita/Panasonic using strontium bismuth tantalate (SET). A 32-Mb SET memory has more recently been announced by Samsung. Device performances are similar in each case. The PZT device has the advantage that it can be processed at lower temperatures (450 °C, compared with ca. 650 °C for SET) the SET devices have the environmental advantage that they are lead-free. [Pg.200]

This cell system is also under active development for EV traction. Realistic targets are reported as 80 Wh/kg for energy density, 200 W/kg for power density, and a cycle life of over 1000. The Ovonic Battery Co have already demonstrated 67 Wh/kg for a 250 Ah battery, and Panasonic have reported a similar value for a 130 Ah unit. Thermal management and cost are likely to be the key factors limiting development of nickel-metal hydride technology for electric vehicles. [Pg.180]
