Paint hiding power

The abiHty of a coating to hide the substrate is called its hiding power. Hiding power of a uniform coating is expressed as the area of substrate that can be hidden by a unit volume of the coating (ft /gal or m /L). When the hiding power of a paint is low, several coats must be appHed to increase the film... [Pg.4]

The choice of parameter used in the determination of size distribution should include consideration of the information needed in the interpretation of the data. For example, in the case of a manufacturer of paint pigment, the size parameter that best describes the hiding power (performance of the pigment) is the projected area of particles. A powdered catalyst manufacturer is primarily concerned with surface-area equivalence. [Pg.126]

This compound has entered pigment history as Hansa Yellow G . The commercial varieties are products with comparatively coarse particle sizes and specific surface areas of approximately 8 to 30 m2/g. P.Y.l provides good hiding power, it is used primarily in air drying paints as well as in packaging and textile printing. [Pg.221]

P.Y.167 enjoys only regional importance and is recommended for application in paints. The currently available type provides medium hiding power. In full shade and in similar deep shades, it shows a medium yellow white reductions are greenish yellow and very clean. Its fastness properties correspond to those of other monoazo yellow pigments P.Y.167 is not alkali resistant. [Pg.229]

Incorporated in paints, P.Br.41 exhibits equally high hiding power, which makes it a less attractive product for use in metallic finishes. Its tinctorial strength in these media is comparatively poor. However, P.Br.41 is completely fast to overcoating. The commercial grade shows considerable flocculation in various paint... [Pg.387]

P.Y.139 is a reddish yellow pigment, used in plastics, paints, and printing inks. The commercial types exhibit a wide variety of particle size distributions and accordingly demonstrate very different coloristic properties, which is especially true for the hiding power. The opaque version is considerably redder. Incorporated in a paint, it is less viscous, which makes it possible to increase the pigment concentration without affecting the gloss of the product. [Pg.415]

The recent isoindolinone pigment is already being withdrawn from the market. The commercially available grade had a coarse particle size and thus provided good hiding power. The pigment was recommended for use in various types of industrial paints, including automotive finishes. [Pg.418]
