Packaging quality hazard

The packaging material is a laminate made from layers of paper, plastic (polyethylene) and aluminium foil. The particular composition for a given product is chosen according to its specific requirements. This affords the best protection to each product and keeps it in peak condition until consumed. Polyethylene is laminated to the board to make it impermeable, and an aluminium foil (of 10 p.m or less) is added to increase the barrier properties against external hazards such as sunlight and atmospheric oxygen, which would cause deterioration of product quality. [Pg.224]

Another component in postmarketing safety surveillance programs is the establishment of enforcement mechanisms to correct product problems. Errors can occur in drug production, packaging, and shipping that lead to adulteration, loss of potency, mislabeling, and other hazardous situations. Prompted by user reports or by results of their own internal quality control procedures, drug manufacturers routinely initiate voluntary product recalls. These actions typically involve limited quantities, or batches, which are cited in public notices of recalls published by the FDA. Product problems that represent serious and widespread threats to public health evoke another form of official publication Public Safety Alerts (entitled Public Safety Reports in Europe). [Pg.118]

The fabrication and packaging/labelling of sterile products requires special care and attention to detail because of the increased hazard to health should a product be non-sterile or otherwise contaminated. As the various processes used in the production of sterile drugs are susceptible to particulate, pyrogenic and microbiological contamination, the skill, training and altitudes of personnel involved are critical. Quality Assurance bears a particularly great importance this production must strictly follow carefully established and validated methods of preparation and procedures. [Pg.330]

The microbiological regulations have been used for polymeric packaging materials in food industry and represent a control point in a hazard analysis and critical control point [15]. Food packaging foils serve to preserve food quality and protect... [Pg.183]

Other packaging aids (e.g. labels, glue, shrink films, carton boxes, trays, crates) are not be considered microbial hazards. Nevertheless, a certain standard of hygiene is necessary to deliver an appropriate product appearance to the consumer. Beer in packaging that has a dirty or even miaobially spoiled look will not be accepted, although the packaged beer may be of best quality. [Pg.326]

Food Control. 1990-. Amsterdam Elsevier (0956-7135). Online ScienceDirect. Covers research in all aspects of food safety, such as microbial food safety and antimicrobial systems, mycotoxins, hazard analysis, HACCP and food safety objectives, risk assessment, including microbial risk assessment, quality assurance and control, food packaging and rapid methods of analysis and detection, including sensor technology. [Pg.72]
