Critical to the successtlil completion of this process are the software tools required to store and analyse the inspection and related data. This is a major task and to achieve this OIS has produced, in conjunction with a major specialist technical software provider, the Asset Condition Evaluation Tool (Acet). Acet is a comprehensive suite of programs which draws on the extensive experience of engineers working in this field for many years, to provide a readily usable and highly auditable package for this application.

A metier is an array of individual extmsion positions on one machine. The yam is collected as a package, eg, bobbin, tube, pirn, at each metier position and removed from the machine at regular intervals to maintain a constant supply of yam on each package. The package may contain 0.5—7.0 kg of yam. Bobbin yam may contain a slight twist, ie, ca 0.08 turns per cm, whereas yam taken up on tubes may have zero twist. The yam is transferred from bobbins to different packages for sale. The product may contain a twist of 0.3—8.0 turns per cm. At present, compacted yam is more popular than low twist yam. 

Water-Soluble Films. Water-soluble films can be produced from such polymers as poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH), methylceUulose, poly(ethylene oxide), or starch (qv) (see Cellulose ethers Polyethers Vinyl polymers). Water-soluble films are used for packaging and dispensing portions of detergents, bleaches, and dyes. A principal market is disposable laundry bags for hospital use. Disposal packaging for herbicides and insecticides is an emerging use. 

Conventional thermoforming of polystyrene and PVC is the most widely used technique for making packages for dairy products and for disposable cups and trays.
