Ozone Resistant Layer

Antiozonants (qv) also protect mbber surfaces by the formation of a protection layer on the surface of mbber by reaction of the antiozonant with ozone, the ozonides (4) formed in reaction with the mbber. Certain polymers also provide good ozone protection. The use of 20—30 parts of EPDM, alow diene mbber, in natural mbber or SBR compounds significantly increases ozone resistance. [Pg.246]

In addition, we have designed a new filtration system using our new ozone-resistant MF module in conjunction with ozone (Hashino et al., 2000). In this system, filtration was carried out at low pressure and low linear velocity and with air scrubbing to remove cake layer on the membrane. This system can provide a high permeate flux consistently for various types of water, especially as in the case of highly turbid raw water and secondary treated municipal wastewater. [Pg.110]

Bennett etal. have presented a model for gaseous pollution sorption by plants. The model includes all the known factors that might have a significant effect on pollution sorption by plant leaves, including gas concentration (ambient air and internal leaf), gas fluxes (external and internal), resistance to flow (leaf boundary layer, stomatal, and internal), nature of leaf surfaces (stomatal presence, cutin, and surface properties), importance of gas solubility and thus solute concentration within the leaf, and ability of the plant to metabolize pollutants (decontaminate itself). They mentioned the reactivity of ozone as another factor to consider. They believe that surface sorption may be important, at least over short periods. They presented a possible mathematical representation of these factors, which they suggested is equivalent to the mathematical statement of Ohm s law. This material is well int ated in the review by Bennett and Hill. ... [Pg.535]

For the fabrication of devices, glass substrates (0.7 mm) coated with ITO (80 nm, 10-20 ohm/ square sheet resistance) were used. After routine cleaning procedures for the substrate with wet (acetone and isopropyl alcohol) and dry (UV-ozone) processes, a blended solution of organic materials was spin coated (700 rpm) on top of ITO, precoated with a poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) poly(4-styrenesulphonate) (PEDOT PSS) hole-injecting buffer layer. The basic organic solution consisted of a hole transporting material of N,N -diphenyl-... [Pg.107]

Cured positive plates are treated with ozone gas in a chamber, as a result of which PbO is oxidized to Pb02, which forms a thin coating on the surface of unformed plates. During formation, the lead dioxide layers on the two plate surfaces grow simultaneously towards the plate s interior. Consequently, the formation time and the energy input are reduced substantially. However, this method is too expensive and requires special corrosion-resistant chambers. [Pg.353]

Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (1985). Created a framework for international cooperation and monitoring. It was agreed in principle to tackle a global environmental problem before its effects were felt (or scientific certainty obtained), viscosity. The internal resistance to flow of a fluid mathematically defined as the ratio of shear stress to shear rate. [Pg.7188]

The environment in which an article is used may influence bond durability (see also Durability fundamentals). Atmospheric ozone can cause time-dependent crack growth in vulcanized elastomers in addition, ozone can induce failure at a bond with certain bonding agents. Although water is only slightly soluble, it can permeate elastomers by an osmotic mechanism induced by salt-Uke impurities. As a result, the uptake in salt water is generally less than that in pure water. Rubber to metal bond failure has been found to occur in a time-dependent manner under salt water in the presence of electrochemical activity but much more slowly, if at all, in its absence (see also Cathodic disbondment). In the absence of imposed electrochemical activity, effects are likely to depend particularly on the metal used and its corrosion resistance. Provision of a bonded rubber cover layer over all metal surfaces subject to immersion is likely to enhance bond durability. [Pg.416]
