Yttria-partially stabilised zirconia coatings were manufactured by SPS of submicrometre-sized particles (50 and 400 nm) with several sets of spray operating parameters (Bacciochini et al., 2010). The average void size was comparable to the solid precursor structure showing nanometre-size scale with multimodal size [Pg.192]

Water used for human purposes is delivered in a variety of ways. It is placed in a container to be transported or it is forced by gravity into a system of mains, service lines, and pipes to deliver it to individual users. In both cases the water contacts a surface. Water is a very effective solvent and will invariably extract some chemicals from these surfaces. The surfaces that water contacts are metal, plastic, concrete, or a paint or other type of coating that is applied to the surface. In addition to pipes and containers, there are reservoirs and holding tanks in which similar problems are involved. [Pg.2085]

Rule 66 (later called Rule 442 of the South Coast Air Quality Management District) also limited oven emissions from baked coatings. Incineration, absorption, or recovery of volatiles is needed to meet this restriction. In further regulations, use of high-solids, low-solvent, water-borne, and other types of coatings with low-volatile emissions was encouraged. The evolution of various air pollution regulations has been summarized (74, 75). [Pg.688]

Small amounts of cumene are used as thinners for paints, lacquers, and enamels, and as solvents in paints and other types of coatings. By far the greatest amount of cumene, however, is used as a raw material in the manufacture of phenol, acetone, and methyl styrene. These compounds, in turn, have a great many chemical and industrial uses. Some of the most important uses are the production of plastics, such as polystyrene, phenol-formaldehyde resins, and polycarbonates. [Pg.256]

Isopropyl alcohol dissolves many other organic compounds easily, so it finds wide use as a solvent for gums essential and other kinds of oils alkaloids certain types of plastics derivatives of cellulose paints, varnishes, shellacs, and other types of coatings and quick-drying inks. Essential oils are oils extracted from plants that have therapeutic value. Alkaloids are organic bases that contain the element nitrogen. [Pg.388]

The coupling of the CZE step to detection systems other than UV has required the development of separation conditions compatible to the detection system used. For instance, the presence of primary amines, such as DAB, in buffers needed to be avoided for compatibility with laser-induced fluorescence (LIE) of compounds derivatized with fluorogenic substrates through their amino groups [90]. Baseline resolution of eight peaks in approximately the same time was achieved by substituting DAB by morpholine and tricine by boric acid (to avoid potential traces of primary amines in the tricine buffer) and by adjusting the concentration of other buffer components to compensate for the increase in electrical current. In the same work, modifications were also required to achieve compatibility with MS detection where nonvolatile salts, urea, and amines should be usually avoided. A physically adsorbed polyethylenimine-coated capillary was used to overcome protein adsorption to the capillary walls in the absence of cationic additives and the use of an acetate buffer at pH 5.05 allowed the partial resolution of at least five bands of rhEPO. Other types of coated capillaries have been used for the analysis of EPO by CE-MS as detailed in Section 22.4.3.3 [30,37,42,62,96]. [Pg.648]

Zinc-rich coatings provide more effective corrosion protection to steel substrates than any other type of coating as a result of the galvanic reaction. The zinc preferentially sacrifices itself in the electrochemical corrosion reaction to protect the underlying steel. This galvanic reaction, combined with the filling and sealing effects of zinc reaction products, is what protects the steel substrate. [Pg.226]

A cut or scratch of the film applied on polarized p>anel allows again the flow of protective electrical current metallic zinc is oxidized and the film is sealed again. A substantial difference with other types of coatings is that the corrosive phenomenon does not occur under the film adjacent to the cut (undercutting). [Pg.158]

Pigmenting moisture-cure polyurethanes is not easy because, like all additives, pigments must be free from moisture [9]. The color range is therefore somewhat limited compared with the color range of other types of coatings. [Pg.20]

Up to six polymorphic forms of cocoa butter crystals have been reported. It is common practice to work chocolate into very stable P or small jS crystal forms by slow agitation, careful control of temperatures, and tempering (holding) freshly cast products under specific conditions before release to the trade. Bloom, a grayish defect, occurs when chocolate or other types of coating fats have been allowed to partially melt, and some oils rise above the sugar and coloring matter in the product and recrystallize. [Pg.299]
