Other Lesions

Detection of a codon 816 c-kit point mutation in blood, bone marrow, or lesional tissue Mast cells in the bone marrow, blood, or other lesional tissue expressing CD25 or CD2... [Pg.114]

D2 Mostly in striatum, nucleus accumbens and olfactory tubercle but also on neuron cell bodies in substantia nigra and ventral tegmentum where they are the autoreceptors for locally (dendritic) released DA. The loss of specific D2 antagonist binding in the striatum after lesions of the afferent nigro-striatal tract indicates their presynaptic autoreceptor role on terminals there. Other lesion studies have also established D2 receptors on other inputs such as the cortico striatal tract. [Pg.148]

Carnosine is an avid chelator of metal ions (Baran, 2000). Complexes with calcium, copper, and zinc ions have been described (Trombley et ah, 2000). It is possible, therefore, that carnosine could exert some sort of control of calcium metabolism in muscle tissue (heart or skeletal). It is also likely that the dipeptide controls the availability of zinc ions in neuronal tissue, especially the olfactory lobe where both carnosine and zinc are enriched (Bakardjiev, 1997 Bonfanti et ah, 1999 Sassoe-Pognetto et ah, 1993). Zinc-camosine complexes, called polaprezinc, are also effective in the repair of ulcers and other lesions in the alimentary tract (Matsukura and Tanaka, 2000). [Pg.93]

For the other lesions derived from alkyl radieals diseussed in this seetion, little is known of their structural and biological impact. However, given that a single ISC ean be sufficient to kill a eukaryotic cell, the eonsequenees of the ISCs derived from T(—H) should be evaluated. [Pg.196]

At the sites of Injection of oxime in the rabbits, various extents of hemorrhage and of purulent, indurative myositis and muscle necrosis were seen. The rabbits that received physiologic saline and five that received intramuscular injections of 2.15 M sodium chloride on 8 d in a satellite experiment had waxy degeneration of muscle at the site of injection. Five rabbits that received intramuscular injections of 2.15 M I on 8 d also had waxy degeneration of muscle at the site of injection. This was stated to be more extensive than that seen in the rabbits given equimolar sodium chloride. No other lesions in the rabbits that seem to be attributable to the oximes were described. [Pg.273]

Because of the rather nonspecific blockade of dopaminergic receptors, antipsychotics are associated with several adverse side effects. The most serious of these are abnormal movement patterns that resemble tardive dyskinesia, Parkinson disease, and other lesions associated with the extrapyramidal system. In some cases, these aberrant motor activi-... [Pg.102]

Opposite the 3 T of a TT dimer, Pol is unable to insert a nucleotide in vitro, although it is active for translesion synthesis opposite the 5 T of the dimer. Thus, other translesion polymerases are required to bypass the 3 T of the TT dimer and other lesions for which Pol is inactive. During translesion synthesis, the active site... [Pg.479]

A 37-year-old man, with a short history of heroin and cocaine use, presented with spasticity of all limbs, a confusional state, and mutism (28). The electroencephalogram, CT scan, and MRI scan showed predominantly positive frontal pathology, with other lesions in the pyramidal tracts and corpus callosum. The diagnosis was leukoencephalopathy. The symptoms gradually abated after 4 weeks, and repeat tests after 6 months shown to be normal. [Pg.545]
