At this moment, the price of the used granular PCM exceeds 10 EURO/kg due to the test production stage. Our calculation showed the cost payback time can be less than 10 years when the PCM cost would be reduced to 4 EURO/kg under the electrical utility rate condition in Japan. Further cost reduction will be needed to promote the actual system. In addition we have to care of flammability of paraffin wax as PCM in use of inside the buildings. Fortunately, PCM is placed under the OA floor board made of fireproof cement-mortal and above the concrete slab in this system. It may not have any problems under the Fire Defense Law in Japan. However, further development of noninflammable PCM granules, for example micro encapsulation of mixture of inorganic and organic PCM, is required. 

This type of PCM is divided in paraffin compounds and nonparaffin compounds (fatty acids mostly). Principal advantages of organic PCM are the chemical and thermal stability, they are noncorrosive, they are recyclable, and they have no subcooling. On the other hand, the disadvantages are their flammability, low thermal conductivity (k), and low phase change enthalpy. 

PCMs may also be filled into synthetic hollow fibers to fabricate PCM fibers and fabrics. Researchers have fabricated differerrt kinds of hollow fibers filled with both inorganic and organic PCMs such as LiN03.3Hj0, Zn (N03)2.6Hj0 and PEG. The hollow fibers employed include rayon fibers and polypropylene fibers (Vigo and Frost, 1983). For application in textiles, the wash-resistanee, durability and handling of the treated PCM have to be taken into consideratiom... 

The PCM-graphite matrix can be produced with many organic and inorganic PCM, but with some important exceptions. Furtheron, limitations in producing the graphite-matrix with respect to shape and size exist. SGL has therefore developed a second method to produce PCM-graphite composites.

We have now achieved a situation in which dielectric continuum solvation models in general, and especially COSMO, are quite well established for SCF ground-state calculations of organic molecules. Many of the methods, tools, and properties available for gas-phase calculation can also be performed in a dielectric continuum solvation model. The PCM model including C-PCM provides the greatest breadth of implemented functionality.

Above, we have rapidly presented a few types of applications of continuum solvent models to the study of phenomena involving molecular excited states. Others could be mentioned as the case of chromophore inserted into a polymeric matrix or in organic crystals and the case of liquid systems experiencing a large external pressure. These are cases for which the computational version of PCM has been elaborated and tested [1,11,12], but many other phenomena have not been considered yet. There are big expectations for the future, and we are confident that within few years, the collective efforts of the laboratories working on these... 

The present review is organized as follows in Section 7.1.1 we present the TDDFT-PCM methodology for the calculation of excited state properties of solvated molecules in Section 7.1.2 we describe a TDDFT-PCM linear response approach to a state-specific description of the solute-solvent interaction finally, in Section 7.1.3 we present a time-dependent extension of the PCM to describe the solvent relaxation processes accompanying the formation and relaxation of excited state solutes.
