The topic Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons has been reviewed by different authors in the last decades [26]. The most complete summary of classical synthetic routes to PAHs may still be found in Eric Clar s Polycyclic Hydrocarbons [26a]. Most recently, Ronald G. Harvey reviewed the syntheses and characteristics of PAHs up to seven rings in a very comprehensive fashion [26 f] in his book Polycyclic Aromatic Compounds . Recent advances in the synthesis of PAHs are published in all major journals of organic chemistry, in Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons [27], and presented during the regular ISNA [28] and ISPAC [29] conferences. [Pg.48]

Topics which have formed the subjects of reviews this year include excited state chemistry within zeolites, photoredox reactions in organic synthesis, selectivity control in one-electron reduction, the photochemistry of fullerenes, photochemical P-450 oxygenation of cyclohexene with water sensitized by dihydroxy-coordinated (tetraphenylporphyrinato)antimony(V) hexafluorophosphate, bio-mimetic radical polycyclisations of isoprenoid polyalkenes initiated by photo-induced electron transfer, photoinduced electron transfer involving C o/CjoJ comparisons between the photoinduced electron transfer reactions of 50 and aromatic carbonyl compounds, recent advances in the chemistry of pyrrolidino-fullerenes, ° photoinduced electron transfer in donor-linked fullerenes," supra-molecular model systems, and within dendrimer architecture, photoinduced electron transfer reactions of homoquinones, amines, and azo compounds, photoinduced reactions of five-membered monoheterocyclic compounds of the indigo group, photochemical and polymerisation reactions in solid Qo, photo- and redox-active [2]rotaxanes and [2]catenanes, ° reactions of sulfides and sulfenic acid derivatives with 02( Ag), photoprocesses of sulfoxides and related compounds, semiconductor photocatalysts, chemical fixation and photoreduction of carbon dioxide by metal phthalocyanines, and multiporphyrins as photosynthetic models. [Pg.188]

The extensive investigation of the biological activity of organic compounds that is so characteristic of the last few decades, has also revealed active compounds in the isoxazole series. The main advances have been achieved in recent years. [Pg.421]

These ideas might be used to explain the interesting results obtained recently by Williams et al.53 These workers observed formation of crystalline polystyrene when the reaction was initiated by triphenyl methyl potassium (or some other potassium metallo-organic compounds) in a hexane solution, but an amorphous polymer was formed in benzene. They point out that the catalyst is soluble in benzene but insoluble in hexane, and suggest that the heterogeneity of the catalyst is responsible for the results. Although this might be the case, an alternative explanation could be advanced.42 1... [Pg.172]

The metal catalysed hydroboration and diboration of alkenes and alkynes (addition of H-B and B-B bonds, respectively) gives rise to alkyl- or alkenyl-boronate or diboronate esters, which are important intermediates for further catalytic transformations, or can be converted to useful organic compounds by established stoichiometric methodologies. The iyn-diboration of alkynes catalysed by Pt phosphine complexes is well-established [58]. However, in alkene diborations, challenging problems of chemo- and stereo-selectivity control stiU need to be solved, with the most successful current systems being based on Pt, Rh and An complexes [59-61]. There have been some recent advances in the area by using NHC complexes of Ir, Pd, Pt, Cu, Ag and Au as catalysts under mild conditions, which present important advantages in terms of activity and selectivity over the established catalysts. [Pg.38]

Most research on the rhizospherc environment has been forcedly descriptive in the past. Recent advances show that organic compounds present in the rhizo-sphere can have a specific role in plant-micro-organism-soil interactions. Moreover, it starts to be elucidated ... [Pg.13]

It is the purpose of the series to review the field of organic nitro chemistry in its broadest sense by including structurally related classes of compounds such as nitroamines, nitrates, nitrones, and nitrile oxides. It is intended that the contributors, who are active investigators in various facets of the field, will provide a concise presentation of recent advances that have generated a renaissance in nitro chemistry research. [Pg.380]
