Structure ordered

Other examples of order-disorder second-order transitions are found in the alloys CuPd and Fe Al. Flowever, not all ordered alloys pass tlirough second-order transitions frequently the partially ordered structure changes to a disordered structure at a first-order transition. [Pg.632]

In addition to being a remarkable demonstration of the power of computer-based combinatorial design of a protein fold, this designed peptide is the shortest known peptide consisting entirely of naturally occurring amino acids that folds into a well-ordered structure without metal binding, oligomerization or disulfide bond formation. [Pg.368]

Liquid crystal polymers (LCP) are a recent arrival on the plastics materials scene. They have outstanding dimensional stability, high strength, stiffness, toughness and chemical resistance all combined with ease of processing. LCPs are based on thermoplastic aromatic polyesters and they have a highly ordered structure even in the molten state. When these materials are subjected to stress the molecular chains slide over one another but the ordered structure is retained. It is the retention of the highly crystalline structure which imparts the exceptional properties to LCPs. [Pg.12]

The field t is not coupled to any other fields and plays no role in the formation of ordered structures [15] within the Gaussian approximation. [Pg.724]

While this process implies an ordered, structured process, it should be noted that the various stages overlap and it is frequently necessary to return to an earlier step in the process to modify or clarify information or decisions made in an earlier phase. The influence of the human factors aspects on design needs to be similarly integrated into the process design procedure. The particular human factors elements to be addressed at each phase are discussed below. These phases can be directly related to the human factors engineering and ergonomics (HFE/E) design approach described in Section 2.2. [Pg.351]

In crystals with the LI2 structure (the fcc-based ordered structure), there exist three independent elastic constants-in the contracted notation, Cn, C12 and 044. A set of three independent ab initio total-energy calculations (i.e. total energy as a function of strain) is required to determine these elastic constants. We have determined the bulk modulus, Cii, and C44 from distortion energies associated with uniform hydrostatic pressure, uniaxial strain and pure shear strain, respectively. The shear moduli for the 001 plane along the [100] direction and for the 110 plane along the [110] direction, are G ooi = G44 and G no = (Cu — G12), respectively. The shear anisotropy factor, A = provides a measure of the degree of anisotropy of the electronic charge... [Pg.390]
