Order in the Liquid State and Structure

Neutron diffraction is one of the most widely used techniques for studying liquid structure. In the experiment, neutrons are elastically scattered off the nuclei in the sample and are detected at different scattering angles, typically 3° to 40°, for the purpose of measuring intermolecular stmcture whilst minimizing inelasticity corrections. The resultant scattering profile is then analyzed to provide stmctural information. [Pg.175]

The data taken are normally presented as the total stmcture factor, F(Q)- This is related to the neutron scattering lengths, hi, the concentrations, Cj, and the partial stmcture factor S,j(0 for each pair of atoms i andj in the sample, via Eq. (4.T1)  [Pg.175]
