Online safety aspects

Online systems can also be devised, but these provide additional challenges due to the safety aspects required for process stream measurements at petrochemical facilities. Sampling systems based on carefully designed and tested speed loops will be required, as will explosion-proof enclosures. A speed loop is a configuration where sample is taken out of the process line at one point and returned to the process line at a lower pressure down the process line. This provides a sample that is continuously updated and representative of the sample being processed. [Pg.211]

There is considerable variation in how an applicant pool can be generated. For example, a job vacancy can be placed on an online job site, in a newspaper, or posted on a notice board. Irrespective of how a job is advertised, the common element is that a written description of more or less detail is generally produced. A job vacancy advertisement should cover the job title, what the key tasks and roles are, what competencies are required to perform the job, how further information (e.g., job description and person specification) can be acquired, and how to apply for the position. To include a realistic safety preview, safety factors should be noted in the job advertisement. To omit any mention of safety is to miss an opportunity to ensure new employee safety. Furthermore, it is simply wrong for an organization to assume that individuals in the labor pool will already know about a job s safety risks. It is not necessary to provide extensive and detailed statements about safety in a job advertisement. Rather statements, such as There are safety risks associated with undertaking aspects of this job. This job is performed in a hazardous environment. Safety aspects associated with this job require employees to work with extreme causation. Safety compliance is a key performance indicator for this job. In order to maintain safety the successful candidate will have the following competencies. .., are examples of what could be included in order to bring the safety factors associated with the job to the attention of interested individuals. [Pg.147]

Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the concept of corporate social responsibility (CSR) as viewed by different participants in the Finnish labour market. One senior specialist from each of the Confederation of Finnish Industries, the Central Organization of Finnish Trade Unions SAK and the Finnish Consumers Association was requested to complete an online questionnaire. The aim of this study was to elucidate how the different participants view various aspects of CSR. Further study aims were to gather the kinds of the responses to the research questions which could be used as a reference base for future development. The main research question was How does CSR become the best practice in business activities The sub-questions were How does CSR come to represent the best practices in the day-to-day activities of (1) business strategy of companies, (2) financiers and shareholders, (3) customers and consumers, (4) employees of the companies and (5) communities and authorities CSR is a strategic process of mutual commitment between a corporation and its stakeholders. Its purpose is to create a social contract to maximize the welfare of all partners concerned. CSR is also an important way to stimulate proactive behaviour and to improve to health, environment and safety strategies of the companies. CSR provides a company with the ability to recognize and respond effectively to social challenges. [Pg.221]

Includes articles on many aspects of food science including food safety, flavor chemistry, food colors, pesticides, risk assessment, effects of processing on nutrition, food labeling, and fnnctional/bioactive foods. [Pg.72]

Food Control. 1990-. Amsterdam Elsevier (0956-7135). Online ScienceDirect. Covers research in all aspects of food safety, such as microbial food safety and antimicrobial systems, mycotoxins, hazard analysis, HACCP and food safety objectives, risk assessment, including microbial risk assessment, quality assurance and control, food packaging and rapid methods of analysis and detection, including sensor technology. [Pg.72]

Other aspects of further research include the effort to model the physical and environmental processes inside road tunnels with the aim of facilitating the decision making process in emergency situations. The application of these models may result in an online tool for mobile phones that will receive information from the tunnel users and the tunnel environment. This information can then be used as input for the operating centre s decision making system, and allow the operator to guide tunnel users to safety, through an interactive process. [Pg.2007]

Many of the databases are also available on CD-ROM. Like the inhouse versions they usually offer an easy-to-use retrieval interface, but in most cases it is not possible to utilize proprietary data. Some of the databases are distributed only as CD-ROM. Sometimes a combination of three to five online databases on different aspects of chemical safety can be found together on one CD-ROM. [Pg.335]
