In Hodgkin s disease, a Reed-Sternberg variant type of cell is accepted as evidence for liver involvement. Typically these cells are rarely identified in biopsy specimens (Jaffe 1987). In non-Hodgkin s disease, the lymphocytic form tends to be miliary, whereas the large cells or histiocytic varieties are nodular masses (Ryan et al. 1988). In both Hodgkin s and non-Hodgkin s lymphoma initial involvement is seen in the portal areas, because this is where the majority of the lymphatic tissue of the liver is found. [Pg.252]

Cancer. A small non-significant excess of respiratory cancers among phenol-exposed wood industry workers was not clearly related to phenol exposure (Kauppinen et al. 1986). Although small nonsignificant excesses of Hodgkin s disease and of lung, esophageal, and kidney cancers were noted, mortality from cancer was not clearly related to phenol exposure in phenol production workers (Dosemeci et al. 1991). [Pg.126]

Because of its antiviral and anticancer effects, IFN-a is used in the treatment of hepatitis and various forms of cancer, such as Kaposi s sarcoma, non-Hodgkin s lymphoma, and hairy cell leukemia. Exhibit 4.8 describes the treatment of hepatitis C with IFN- . IFN-jS is used for treating multiple sclerosis, a chronic disease of the nervous system. The medical application of IFN-y is for cancer, AIDS, and leprosy. [Pg.115]

Recent review papers have covered in detail the available cUnical results with the mXOR inhibitors [151,156]. Overall, the compounds are well tolerated and may induce prolonged stable disease and increase time to progression in a subset of cancer patients. In particular, promising activity has been reported for CCl-779 in patients with mantle cell non-Hodgkin s lymphoma [151]. [Pg.192]

Vinblastine is used for severe lymphoblastic leukemia, Hodgkin s disease, non-Hodgkin s lymphoma, neuroblastoma, sarcoma, and other cancerous diseases. Synonyms of this drug are velban, eczal, and others. [Pg.405]
