New Sunshine

Japan 2 and 30 kWe PEFC pilot plants have been promoted in Japan as a part of New Sunshine Program. The 2 kWe plant is for residential use and will be developed by Sanyo Electric. The plant is scheduled for testing in 2000. 

Japan As part of the New Sunshine Program, 200 and 1,000 kWe test facilities are planned in Japan. This plan is promoted collectively by 10 electric power companies, 3 gas companies. Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry, 7 manufacturers, and 2 research...

Japan In 2002, Japan nearly doubled its fuel cell R D budget to 220 million from 119 million. It created a new large-scale Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell Development Program to develop PEFC fuel cells for both transport and stationary applications, leaving molten carbonate fuel cell and solid oxide fuel cell R D under the New Sunshine Program. 

With most woods, new surfaces first of all darken when exposed to light, particularly with teak and afrormosia, where any masking of portions of the surfaces of furniture can give blemishes. After full colour development, strong sunshine bleaches most woods to a common brown colour. 

To our knowledge, there are no other such large scale R D efforts on fuel cells elsewhere for civilian purpose. The other present work is scattered in different countries and is aimed at much lower power output (10-20 kW). In Belgium, a conglomerate of several companies established a new company, Elenco, that is now in the process of developing some power plants based on alkaline fuel cells (11). Some Japanese R and D effort is also being devoted to this area in the framework of the Sunshine program (15).

The following crucial experiment was made ou one of the pictures. It was suspended for twelve months in the open air, under the principal chimney of the New Museum at Berlin during that time it was exposed to sunshine, mist, snow, and rain, and nevertheless retained its full brilliancy of color.

Every Saturday (except in a blizzard or when it s too cold to get out of bed), my family gets up, purposely forgets to shower, and walks the few blocks to our local farmers market. Usually it s buzzing with activity, earthy smells, bugs and bees, sunshine, and the friends and kids that make up our small community in Brooklyn. As we enter the market, the heavenly scent of freshly picked fruits and vegetables perfumes the air. A local jazz group sits on old wooden crates and plays bebop music for the kids to dance to. As we wait in line for the "meat man, we chat with friends and new neighbors about kids and recipes.
