Networked communications

The REACH system in southern Georgia (United States) and the TEMPiS system in Germany reported decreased latency to rt-PA delivery on a larger scale. REACH system investigators reported 194 acute stroke consultations dehvered via telemedicine. The time from symptom onset to rt-PA delivery decreased from 143 minutes in the first 10 patients treated to 111 minutes in last 20 patients of 30 patients treated with rt-PA, 23% were treated in 90 minutes or less and 60% were treated within 2 hours without any incidence of post-treatment symptomatic intracerebral hemorrhage. In 2004, the second year of the TEMPiS system, 115 patients in telemedicine-networked community hospitals and 110 patients in stroke centers received rt-PA for acute ischemic stroke or TIA. Patients treated at networked community... [Pg.223]

Positioning systems can use a network communication configuration, where the components operate as nodes on a network. Network communications protocols include ARCnet, CANbus, DeviceNet (a version of CANbus), Ethernet, PROFIBUS, IEEE 1394 (FireWire), IEEE 1451, Interbus-S, SERCOS, and Seriplex, among others. PC bus-type protocols include the normal backplane ISA/EISA (PC-XT/AT) connection for a PC, MAC PCI (Nubus) for Macintosh computers, Multibus, PC 104, PCI bus, cPCI bus (compact PCI), PCMCIA, VME bus, and VXI. [Pg.492]

U.K. GLPs snggest systems that organize, tabnlate, and subject the data to statistical or other mathematical procedures, or that otherwise manipulate or analyze electronically stored data, and permit the retrieval of original data entries." All network communication links nsed for data transfer should be considered potential sonrces of error and controlled appropriately. [Pg.543]

You have chosen the type of network and arrangement (topology). Now the computers need to understand how to communicate. Network communications use protocols. A protocol is a set of rules that govern communications. Protocols detail what language the computers are speaking when they talk over a network. If two computers are going to communicate, they both must be using the same protocol. [Pg.317]

In the last section of this chapter, you learned to differentiate between the different types of devices that connect to networks. These devices, called network connectivity devices, are very important to facilitating communications on a network. You learned how each device (including hubs, routers, bridges, brouters, etc.) works and how it relates to network communications. [Pg.335]

A, B, C, D. A proper IP address and subnet mask are essential for any sort of network communication. However, to reach the Internet, a default gateway, which is the IP address of the router your machine uses to access the Internet, must be configured. You also need the Domain Name System (DNS) server, so you can type www.yahoo.com instead of having to remember the numeric IP address. [Pg.769]

Higher performance as the relatively small binary programs travel across and interact with the data across high-speed parallel channels, as opposed to low-speed serial network communication medium. [Pg.564]

Virtual constructs are essential tools in a number of applications utilizing the concept of telepresence and/or teleimmersion by users of networked computers. Teleinstruction, telemedicine, and different types of teleworking are examples of how the development of networked communication and collaboration leads to an increasing number of applications using virtual and augmented reality. [Pg.235]

In addition to these application-functional layers, some functions are needed to support interactions between clients and servers via networks. All the distributed software that supports interaction between application components and network software is called middleware. Middleware is a generic term for all the software components that allow us to connect separate layers or components and put them into a complete distributed system. It provides an application programming interface (API) that isolates application codes from the underlying network communication formats and protocols. It also supplies intermediate system services such as security, naming, directory, messaging, and transaction management services ... [Pg.715]
