Needs Identification

Let s look at identification of customers needs. How do you identily customers needs Do they all have to get spelled out specifically in a contract The customers needs are both spoken and unspoken, and both of these types of needs are requirements that are expected to be met by the customers. [Pg.151]

Let s start by looking at the definition of quality. How would you define quality Each one of us will develop a definition that will work for us and will probably not be the same as someone else s. Let s look at the definitions that the quality gurus and others have developed  [Pg.151]

1 prefer to look specifically at Feigenbaum s definitiott He brings out more of the aspects of the customer s needs. [Pg.152]

In many instances, I use an exercise to help illustrate how much we can take for granted about our requirements as a customer. The exercise requires a group of people to develop the specifications for an object (such as a high chair, camping cooler, bicycle, and so on). Every group that has done this exercise approaches it in a different way because each of us has a different mind picture of the object and what is important. [Pg.152]

After the specifications have been developed, the specifications are passed to another group. These are then evaluated to see if there might be areas where more information might be required to be able to produce the product. [Pg.152]

Answers to the first question can be illustrated by giving some examples (see Table 1). Eastman Chemical reengineered its innovation process and doubled the value of its R D portfoho (71—74). A team at Eastman was asked to provide (/) an assessment of the then-current innovation process, (2) a vision of the ideal process, (J) a flow chart of the modified process, (4) measures of the process, and (5) key roles and responsibihties. The team identified four main subprocesses needs identification, concept development, implementation, and market development. [Pg.133]

The detailed analysis, involving many respondents inside and outside the company, led to changes in the overall innovation process, ie, a company-wide priority system for innovation projects, measures of innovation for each functional and business area, training and supportive management systems for project managers, informal multifunctional teams in concept development and market development, a stmctured needs identification process, and appointment of a process steward to monitor the innovation process, measure how it functions, and coordinate innovation projects. [Pg.133]

Test Ilibe 10 0.1 M AgN03 When I mixed samples from test tube 10 with samples from test tube 2 that I had already identified as OH , a brownish-gray precipitate consistent with the color of AgOH. Since I had already ruled out test tube 9 and this was the last tube that needed identification, I can conclude that test tube 10 contained Ag+. Finally, when I mixed the samples of test tube 10, which I believed to contain Ag+, with samples from test tube 1 which contained what I believed to be HC1, a white precipitate formed consistent with the color of AgCl. [Pg.313]

Formulating a hypothesis A different approach is needed. Identification of the haze in the crude coconut oil may lead to understanding the clogging. [Pg.822]

SA of SODEs describing chemically reacting systems was introduced early on, in the case of white noise added to an ODE (Dacol and Rabitz, 1984). In addition to expected values (time or ensemble average quantities), SA of variances or other correlation functions, or even the entire pdf, may also be of interest. In other words, in stochastic or multiscale systems one may also be interested in identifying model parameters that mostly affect the variance of different responses. In many experimental systems, the noise is due to multiple sources as a result, comparison with model-based SA for parameter estimation needs identification of the sources of experimental noise for meaningful conclusions. [Pg.47]

Police and firemen are called whenever an accident or spill occurs in the transportation network. They desperately need identification and specific on-scene coordination of activities involving cargoes and materials (7), of involved cargo and hazard properties of materials. [Pg.267]

Bone Marrow. It is very important to check multiple sites, such as the head of the femur, the shaft of the femur, and the vertebral bodies, as the amount of hematopoietic tissue in each of these sites is often different. Also, there are species differences in the relative proportion of fat to hematopoietic tissue that changes with age and location. Careful comparisons to age- and sex-matched control animals, and inherent species-specific degrees of normal variability are vital for making accurate statements concerning compound-induced changes. Also, since the bone marrow is a site of erythroid, as well as lymphoid progenitors, any alteration of cellularity needs identification of the cell type involved, if possible. [Pg.44]

Poisoning. An emergency ward might be confronted with an unconscious patient after, say, an overdose, and urgently need identification of the toxic agent. [Pg.276]

Use knowledge is also deployed during need identification (e.g. SportS, 6 Leisure ) and product testing (e.g. Sportl-3). [Pg.43]
