Multiple cores

Composite trailing edge wedges and stiffened panels are quite similar to their metal-bond counterparts and are used in many of the same applications (Fig. 40). Composite stiffened panels have an advantage over metallic bonded panels in that multiple core bays can easily be incorporated in one assembly (Fig. 41). [Pg.1184]

Histopathological examination shows the typical corelike lesions in a high proportion of muscle fibers in older patients this may amount to 100%. Most typically the cores are large and centrally-placed, but multiple cores may occur in the same fiber cross section. Most older patients show a striking predominance of type 1 (slow twitch oxidative) fibers and virtually all fibers with cores are type 1. Sometimes younger family members have more normal proportions of type 1 and type 2 fibers but, again, the cores are confined to the type 1 fibers. It is well established that muscle fiber types can interconvert due to altered physiological demands, and it is likely that fibers with cores convert to a basically slow twitch-oxidative metabolism to compensate for the fact that up to 50% of their cross sectional area may be devoid of mitochondria. [Pg.292]

Other Applications of the Multiple-Core Approach. The bulk of this chapter has dealt with the specific application of multiple-core methodology to questions of atmospheric Hg deposition. Whole-basin Hg accumulation rates for seven lakes, calculated from multiple sediment cores, were used in a simple mass-balance model to estimate atmospheric fluxes and Hg transport from catchment soils. This approach can be used to answer other limnological questions, and the model is not restricted to Hg or atmospheric deposition. [Pg.65]

This study demonstrates the use of multiple-core methods to obtain whole-basin sediment fluxes from a suite of lakes and the application of these data to questions of atmospheric metal deposition. Multiple-core data can be economically produced by integrating longer core sections and reducing the number stratigraphic units for analysis. As few as three 210Pb analyses per core can yield a modern accumulation rate additional samples provide more historical detail. [Pg.68]

The Use of Templates in Combinatorial Chemistry for the Solid-Phase Synthesis of Multiple Core Structure Libraries... [Pg.229]

By explaining these templates in detail, we will show their possibilities as key intermediates for the synthesis of a large range of different core structures. Tempest and Armstrong [11] have introduced the term Multiple Core Structure Libraries (MCSL) for resin-bound squaric acid derivatives. [Pg.230]

Several other promising templates suitable for the synthesis of multiple core structure libraries have been reported, but their synthetic potential has not yet been fully investigated. [Pg.255]

As a consequence of the progress and success of diverse oligomer libraries, experts in combinatorial synthetic oligomers, glycopeptide and oligosaccharide libraries, RNA-and DNA-aptamers have each contributed their news in these fields, while novel experimental examples of the use of templates in combinatorial chemistry for the solid-phase synthesis of multiple core structure libraries provide some insight to praxis-relevant work. [Pg.610]

Developing synthetic routes that provide skeletal diversity with multiple core scaffolds or backbone structures is an area of particular current interest. Several approaches to generating such multiscaffold libraries have been advanced. In one straightforward strategy, Schultz synthesized a 45 140-member library from multiple heterocyclic scaffolds, each having a set of functional groups in common [39]. The scaffolds were coupled as building blocks, which were then... [Pg.499]
