Multi-meter

Open circuit voltage (OCV), denoted by Eqcv, is the voltage between the anode and the cathode when an MFC is at open circuit, similar with conventional fuel cells. Note the OCV is different from total cell potential, as discussed above generally OCV is lower than the total cell potential, due to different sources resulting in overpotentials. OCV is usually measured under open circuit by a multi-meter or data acquisition system. [Pg.214]

Staticide ESD works as a static electricity Problem Solver and may be applied to keyboards, computers, mice, oscilloscopes, multi-meters, shelving, workstations, mini-environments and wherever dangerous static electricity invades and threatens your electronic equipment. [Pg.228]

Continuous paper machines have undergone extensive mechanical developments since the 1950s, although the principles employed have changed Utde. Cylinder machines stUl are operated and involve multiples of five to seven cylinders they are used to produce heavy multi-ply boards. Fourdriniers are common in the industry and can be used to produce virtually any grade of paper or paperboard. They vary from 1 to 10 meters in width and, including the press and dryer sections, may be more than 200 m long. [Pg.6]

The run and regeneration cycle on small to medium-size units is normally governed by a multi-port valve, which is the only moving part required. There have been many cases where this has failed and brine was injected directly into the boiler. A conductivity meter on the make-up line would guard against this. [Pg.481]

When a bluff body is interspersed in a fluid stream, the flow is split into two parts. The boundary layer (see Chapter 11) which forms over the surface of the obstruction develops instabilities and vortices are formed and then shed successively from alternate sides of the body, giving rise to what is known as a von Karman vortex street. This process sets up regular pressure variations downstream from the obstruction whose frequency is proportional to the fluid velocity, as shown by Strouai. 9. Vortex flowmeters are very versatile and can be used with almost any fluid — gases, liquids and multi-phase fluids. The operation of the vortex meter, illustrated in Figure 6.27, is described in more detail in Volume 3, by Gjnesi(8) and in a publication by a commercial manufacturer, Endress and Hauser.10 ... [Pg.266]

Unfortunately, exclusion chromatography has some inherent disadvantages that make its selection as the separation method of choice a little difficult. Although the separation is based on molecular size, which might be considered an ideal rationale, the total separation must be contained in the pore volume of the stationary phase. That is to say all the solutes must be eluted between the excluded volume and the dead volume, which is approximately half the column dead volume. In a 25 cm long, 4.6 mm i.d. column packed with silica gel, this means that all the solutes must be eluted in about 2 ml of mobile phase. It follows, that to achieve a reasonable separation of a multi-component mixture, the peaks must be very narrow and each occupy only a few microliters of mobile phase. Scott and Kucera (9) constructed a column 14 meters long and 1 mm i.d. packed with 5ja... [Pg.36]

In spite of several drawbacks (i.e. expensive and laborious handling procedures, low space-time yields (Table 2.1), high demand on biosafety, potential contaminations, limited applicability for continuous fermentations [129], and problems obtaining the same glycosyla-tion profile from batch to batch [130]), mammalian cell cultures are widely used for small-scale expression and more recently even on a multi-cubic-meter scale. The system works like insect... [Pg.49]

If we were to place a zero-resistance meter between the two electrodes, we could monitor the amount of charge that flows. Such a meter would be called an ammeter if it measured the current, or a coulometer if it measured the charge. (In practice, most modem meters are multi-function devices and can measure both, changing from one function to another at the flick of a switch.)... [Pg.110]

Powder container. Dry powder inhalers may contain the dry powder formulation in many different forms. The first DPI, the Spinhaler contained single doses in capsules. Other systems, like the Diskus or Diskhaler may contain the metered dose in blisters, whereas systems like the Turbohaler , or Novolizer , have multi-dose containers. [Pg.66]

Surfactant-modified zeolite can be manufactured in multi-ton quantities at a cost of about 460 per cubic meter ( 460 per metric ton). The bulk-produced SMZ has physical and chemical properties essentially identical to SMZ prepared in the laboratory. In particular, the contaminant (chromate and PCE) sorption characteristics of bulk- and laboratory-produced SMZ are the same. [Pg.184]

Slide coating and curtain coating, schematically depicted in Fig. 3.69, are commonly used to apply multi-layered coatings. However, curtain coating has also been widely used to apply single layers of coatings to cardboard sheet. In both methods, the coating fluid is pre-metered. [Pg.162]
