For example, octahedral quadrupole splitting observed for the cis-octahedral analogs 7,8). More recently, temperature-dependent Mossbauer measurements have been used in conjunction with Raman spectroscopy to determine molecular weights 453) and lattice rigidity 460) of various organotin compounds. [Pg.40]

Another point of contention has been the extent to which, if any, SbFj is reduced to SbFs upon intercalation. Although chemical analyses have shown an F Sb ratio of 5 1 (Lll, M5), Sb Mossbauer measurements (B24) indicated partial reduction of Sb(V) to Sb(III). On the other hand, mass-spectral measurements as a function of temperature (S15) showed only SbFs, evolved in stages, with no fluorocarbons emitted at any time. The latter are usually an indication of partial reduction of the intercalant and fluorination of the graphite host. Wide-line, F-NMR chemical-shifts are consistent with either SbFj or SbFe, but not with SbFs, but the occurrence of fluorine exchange could produce minor amounts of trivalent species (FI 1) this point is thus still controversial, and will be alluded to again. [Pg.310]

The calibration procedure is sufficiently accurate for Doppler velocities in the regime 0 to 10 mm s beyond this range, laser calibration is more suitable. Calibration with ot-iron, as described, can also be used for Mossbauer measurements with other isotopes, e.g., Ni, Au, and Ir, for which suitable standard absorbers are not available (provided that the Doppler velocity range of interest is not significantly greater than 10 mm s ). These results obtained in applied field clearly prove that the ST in the dinuclear compounds under study proceeds via [HS-HS] O [HS-LS] O [LS-LS]. Simultaneous ST in both iron centers of the [HS-HS] pairs, leading directly to [LS-LS] pairs, apparently can be excluded, at least in the systems discussed above. This is surprising in view of the fact that these dinuclear complexes are centrosymmetric, that is, the two metal centers have identical surroundings and therefore, experience the same ligand field strength and consequently, thermal ST is expected to set in simultaneously in both centers. In other dinuclear iron(II) complexes, however, thermally induced direct ST from [HS-HS] to [LS-LS] pairs does occur and, indeed, has been observed by Mossbauer measurements [30, 31]. [Pg.406]

Konig and others published in the 1970s an impressive series of studies on six-coordinate iron(II)-bis-phenanthroline complexes [160-164] for which they inferred 5=1 from thorough magnetic susceptibility and applied-field Mossbauer measurements. Criteria for the stabilization of the triplet ground state for six-coordinate compounds with tetragonal ( >4 ) and trigonal ( >3 ) symmetry were obtained from LFT analyses [163], The molecular structures, however, were not known because the materials could not be crystallized. [Pg.428]
