Morphological lesions

The types of morphological changes seen during infection with cytocidal viruses is quite variable. Usually these changes are observed in productive viral infections however, it is also quite common to see identical changes during abortive infections either in nonproductive cell lines or when virus replication is restricted with chemical inhibitors. (For reviews, see Bablanian, 1975 Schrom and Bablanian, 1981). [Pg.397]

Antipyretic activity. Ethanol (50%) extract of the plant, administered intraperito-neally to guinea pigs, was inactive " . Anti-thrombotic effect. Olive oil extract of the fmit, administered intragastrically to male rabbits at a dose of 150 g/kg, was active. Lipid profile was improved with decreased platelet hyperactivity and subendot-helial thrombogenicity and less severe morphological lesion of the endothelium and vascular wall . [Pg.383]

These include atypical or subtle manifestations of dermatologic conditions such as seborrheic dermatitis, rosacea, psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and ichthyosis. Classic manifestations of such diseases are diagnosed with relative ease. However, diagnostic difficulty arises in the presence of atypical morphology, lesions masked by topical therapy (e.g., corticosteroids), or exacerbations due to other topical agents (e.g., skin care products).2,10... [Pg.492]

Non-specific mesenchymal reactions The reaction to acute intestinal affection from Ent. histolytica consists of moderate diffuse swelling and multiplication of the stellate cells. Other morphological lesions are generally not detectable. The liver may be enlarged and sensitive to pressure. [Pg.487]

Another type of gross morphologic lesion in the heart muscle is hypersensitivity myocarditis. This is an inflammatory response that is the most common type of heart disease associated with drug use. There are five primary clinical criteria for diagnosis of this... [Pg.479]

Daily intraperitoneal injection of melatonin significantly reduced diarrhoea and occult blood in the faeces as well as morphological lesions in mice provided with dextran sulphate in the drinking water (Pentney and Bubenik 1995). [Pg.535]

Also, how the block in pyruvic acid decarboxylation and a-ketoglutaric decarboxylation leads to the morphological changes observed in muscle and in the nervous system and why the injuries are restricted to those organs remain to be explained. The detailed mechanism of the development of these morphological lesions, which appear to be distant consequences of the block in the decarboxylation reaction, has not been... [Pg.270]

In rabbits, supplementing saturated fat diet with olive oil improved lipid profile, reduced vascular thrombogenecity and platelet activation with less severe morphological lesions of the endothelium and the vascular wall (97). [Pg.109]

In isolated hepatocytes the first toxic lesion is a change in cell shape. About 10 minutes after administration of phalloidin to the medium hepatocytes develop numerous blebs on their surface (11). We compared the kinetics of bleb formation in vivo with the kinetics of actin polymerization from the thymosin (34 complex in vitro, and found that the two processes develop at a comparable rate. Since polymerization occurs at a rate somewhat faster than the development of surface blebbing in vivo, the morphological lesions in the... [Pg.313]
