Mold fabrication

Bag molding Hinterspritzen This patented process allows virgin or recycled TPs such as PP, PC/ABS, etc. to thermally bond with the backing of multilayer PP based fabrics providing good elasticity. This one step molding technique provides a low cost approach for in-mold fabric lamination that range from simple to complex shapes. [Pg.512]

MESA at a liquid/liquid interface is not limited to two dimensions. Objects placed on a curved interface will assemble into a pseudo-3D system. The capillary forces between the objects are the same as those described for 2D MESA [ref. 5]. The curved interface is made by putting a drop of an immiscible liquid in another, isodense liquid the result is a sphere. The method can easily be extended to different shapes (catenoid, cylinder, cone) by distorting the shape of the drop [ref. 39]. The spherical assemblies in these experiments are made of metallic hexagons (100 pm sides 6 pm thick) with hydrophobic and hydrophilic sides [ref. 11]. Electrodeposition through lithographically defined molds fabricated metallic hexagonal rings (Fig. 4.16). Hydrophilic faces were introduced... [Pg.129]

Microscale mold fabrication continues to expand its capability from recent developments in electronic signal sensing, part measurement, and process control. These improvements allow mold makers to produce molds with extremely small cavities and hold tolerances of 10 nm while cutting mold steel (Chapter 4).46> 150 444... [Pg.525]

Typically, thermoplastics, because of their high melt viscosity, require higher temperatures and injection molding pressures, or expensive mold fabrication costs to design multiple gate systems and therefore are not cost effective materials for large parts. In addition to cost, the use of multiple gates may also lead to a less structurally sound part as a result of knit lines. [Pg.3031]

There are a few possible ways to eliminate melt fracture, such as reducing the velocity of melt, increasing the critical velocity, and reducing heat losses (see Table 6.1). These remedies are limited in the way that they affect the design of the mold, fabricated part properties, and degradation of the polymer. [Pg.193]

There are reinforcement preform constructions. A preform is a method of making chopped fiber mats of complex shapes that are to be used as reinforcements in different RP molding fabricating processes (hand layup, injection, etc.). Oriented fiber patterns can be incorporated in the preforms (Chapter 5). [Pg.38]

The concept of polymer-based 3D microstructure utilizes replica molding. Therefore, the key fabrication processes include 3D mold fabrication and pattern transfer. The material property is a very important factor when choosing the polymer and mold materials for special applications. For easy handling and accurate shape transfer, the mold requires smooth surface and relatively low thermal expansion coefficient since the curing of the polymer often involves heat. Nowadays, several polymer materials such as PDMS, PMMA, and SU-8 are popular choices for microfluidic applications. [Pg.1076]

Replica molding is a method to reproduce the desired structures by filling the mold with the particular material. It is used to create structures on the materials that are not easy to have patterns created. It has the advantages of low cost and the capability of mass production. Replica molding involves two steps 3D mold fabrication and mold transfer. [Pg.1076]

It has been reported that with thermal nanoimprint it is possible to achieve resolutions of less than 10 nm in pattern transfer. It has been confirmed that no resolution limit exists in nanoimprint, and resolution is controlled by the accuracy of mold fabrication. It is possible to produce fine patterns similar to photolithography without high-cost equipment in nanoimprint. PMMA is superior for thermal plasticity polymers because of its stability in division. [Pg.122]
