Substantivity refers to the ability of a perfume or a perfume material, applied in a diluted dispersion in water, to attach itself to a solid surface such as the skin (in the case of toilet soap and bath and shower products), the hair (in shampoos and conditioners), or textile fibers (in detergents and fabric softeners). It may refer also to their ability to stay on the surface when this is moistened (as in deodorants or water-proof sun protection products). 

The water retention of cellulose fibers at a given relative humidity varies depending on whether the equilibration has taken place by desorption or adsorption. (hysteresis). The water uptake also continuously decreases after repeated drying and moistening of the fibers. Additional factors influencing the ability of pulp fibers to swell are their chemical composition, such as their hemicellulose and lignin content.

Especially it touches badly moistened corpuscles. It coincides with a h othesis about updating of an interphase surface. Updating of an interphase surface can be cormected also with difficulties of motion of the settled corpuscles of a dust deep into liquids, for example, with viscosity of mediirm. 

Mist also influences the water content of a thallus. Stocker (1927) considered misty days to be especially favorable for lichens because small drops of water carried by the wind assure the thalli of an even and prolonged moistening. Also, even on dense, foggy days the amount of diffused light (according to Stocker) is sufficient for assimilation. The ecological importance of mist is great because of its ability to retain water loss in the thallus (Butin, 1954).
