Mixtures lubricating grease

The smearing types of material are usually lubricating grease compositions, i.e. blends of soaps and lubricating oil, biit may be mixtures containing petrolatum, oil, lanolin or fatty material. They are softer than the hot-dip materials to pOrmit cold application by smearing. 

A mixture of solid stearine and liquid olein not the lubricating grease made by gelling liquid lubricating oil.

Lubricating grease, as defined by ASTM, is a solid to semifluid product consisting of a dispersion of a thickening agent in a liquid lubricant. In more practical terms, most greases are stabilized mixtures of mineral oil and metallic soap. The soap is usually a calcium, sodium, or lithium compound and is present in the form of fibers whose size and configuration are characteristic of the metallic radical in the soap compound. 

If the material being inspected is of grease-like consistency, but is not actually a lubricating grease but some mixture of heavy hydrocarbons, such as microcrystalline... 

In cold extrusion, powdered metal salts of - stearic acid and - arachidic acid or lubricating greases, or mixtures of both, are used. 

Calcium complex soap greases, obtained by the reaction of lime and a mixture of fatty acids and acetic acid. These greases offer good high temperature and anti-wear/extreme pressure properties related to the presence, in the soap, of calcium acetate that acts as solid lubricant they have good mechanical stability. 

Grease a semisolid or solid lubricant consisting of a stabilized mixture of mineral, fatty, or synthetic oil with soaps, metal salts, or other thickeners. 

A paste made from a 1 1 mixture of mineral oil and silicone grease is used to lubricate the stirrer. 

This test may be applied to the detection of mineral oil in complex mixtures of resin oils, mineral oils, fatty substances, soaps, lime, etc., such as cart-grease and stiff lubricants in general (see Vol. I, p. 365). In these cases the test is made on the unsaponifiable part after treatment with alcoholic potash to eliminate the fatty and resinous substances, soaps and mineral substances. 

Bullet lubricants frequently contain mixtures of some of the following beeswax, petroleum jelly, sheep tallow, carnauba wax, molybdenum disulfide, lithium base grease, ceresin wax, powdered graphite, paraffin wax, Alox compound, and Zokorite. The mixture may be dissolved or suspended in a fast-drying solvent or applied directly while hot.
