This type of mixer has a reduced efficiency, but it can be improved by changing the drum shape or by equipping it with baffles [53, 55]. There are several types of constructive solutions for mechanical mixers, such as intensive nonfluxing mixers, ribbon blenders, double arm mixers, plug mixers, etc. [42, 55-57]. They assure mixing both at room temperature and at high temperature moreover, in some of them, the obtained mixture can be cooled [42] these make them suitable for various forms of the mixing components [42, 55]. [Pg.861]

Paddle Type. This type is similar to the ribbon type except that interrupted flight blades or paddles transfer materials from one end to the other, or from both ends to the center for discharge. The paddle-type mixer can be used for dry materials or pastes of heavy consistency. It can be jacketed for heating or cooling. [Pg.440]

Beside continuous horizontal kilns, numerous other methods for dry pyrolysis of urea have been described, eg, use of stirred batch or continuous reactors, ribbon mixers, ball mills, etc (109), heated metal surfaces such as moving belts, screws, rotating dmms, etc (110), molten tin or its alloys (111), dielectric heating (112), and fluidized beds (with performed urea cyanurate) (113). AH of these modifications yield impure CA. [Pg.421]

Bulk Blenders Vlanv of the mixers used for solids blending (Sec, 19) are also suitable for some liquid-solids blending. Ribbon blenders can be used for such tasks as wetting out or coating a powder, When the final paste product is not too fluid, other solids-handling equipment finds frequent use. [Pg.1647]

For most rapid mixing, in addition to diffusive (fine-scale) mixing, there should be a means by which large groups of particles are intermixed. This can be accomphshed by either the convective or the shear mechanism. A ribbon mixer illustrates the former, whereas a plain tumbler gives the latter. [Pg.1764]

Ribbon blenders are essentially self-contained mixers. They are employed in a variety of solid-liquid, solid-solid, and liquid-liquid blending applications in the chemical process industries. Examples include plastics, pigments, pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, confectionary. [Pg.441]

For the batch mixing of viscous pastes and doughs using ribbon impellers and Z-blade mixers, the tanks may be mounted horizontally. In such units, the working volume of pastes and doughs is often relatively small, and the mixing blades are massive in construction. [Pg.302]

Two maintenance workers were replacing part of a ribbon in a large ribbon mixer. The main switch was left energized the mixer was stopped with one of three start-stop buttons. [Pg.552]

As one mechanic was completing his work inside the mixer, another operator on an adjoining floor pushed, by mistake, one of the other start-stop buttons. The mixer started, killing the mechanic between the ribbon flight and the shell of the vessel. [Pg.552]

Use continuous V-shaped mixer only for handling powder of diameter >0.01mm. For smaller powders, use ribbon blender. [Pg.261]

These mechanisms operate to varying extents in different kinds of mixers and with different kinds of particles. A trough mixer with a ribbon spiral involves almost pure convective mixing, and a simple barrel-mixer involves mainly a form of diffusion mixing. [Pg.30]
