Formamide is a registered substance, eg, in TSCA (75-12-7), EINECS (200-842-0), and MITI (2-681), and can, therefore, be produced in and imported into the United States, EEC, and Japan in compliance with the abovementioned acts.

The amount of research and developmentin CVD is considerable in the U. S. and abroad, not only in industry but al so in universities and in many of the maj or government laboratories. Government sponsorship in most countries remains an important factor either in terms of funding or as a research leader. MITI is currently undergoing research to develop technology for the recycling of non-flammable plastics such as those used in business machines and computers. Their National Institute for Resources and Environment plans to decompose, without the production of harmful substances, non-flammable polymers by means of liquid phase hydrocracking, and to recover from them light oils such as benzene, toluene and xylene. The key to the technology, it is claimed, lies in the development of a catalyst which will be able to combine hazardous substances such as bromine and chlorine contained in the waste plastics. 

Microplasmin is a truncated form of plasmin that is more resistant to the effects of antiplasmin. In a rabbit stroke model, intravenous microplasmin infusion resulted in a high rate of clot lysis without increasing the rate of ICH. In addition, there was significant improvement in the behavioral rating scores, suggesting a neu-roprotective effect. The ongoing MITI-IV trial is a 40-patient multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial using three different intravenous doses of microplas-min to treat acute ischemic stroke (NIHSS >6 and <22) within 12 hours of symptom onset. 

Before the EPA proceeds on a regulatory action, registrants whose products exceed the 10 risk level from nitroso contamination, will be given the opport mity to lower potential exposure to applicators and other users of their pesticides. Reduction of exposure and, thus, reduction of risk can be accomplished by modification of the manufacturing process (see below), improved packaging technology, modification of application technique (e.g. closed systems), or deletion of high-exposure uses.
