Milling equipment used

The general pieces of equipment used in grinding flake mica or mica concentrate into saleable mica products are hammer mills of various types, fluid energy mills, Chaser or Muller mills for wet grinding, and Raymond or WiUiams high side roUer mills. Another method is being developed, called a Duncan mill (f. M. Huber, Inc.), that is similar in many respects to an attrition mill. AH of these mills are used in conjunction with sieves, and all but some types of hammer mills incorporate air classifiers as a part of the circuit. [Pg.289]

There are advantages and disadvantages in both processes the solvent process requires no special equipment but uses an excess of benzene whose recovery adds to the cost of the product. The bad mill method uses no excess benzene but requires special equipment which has frequent mechanical problems. [Pg.423]

Two classes of grinding equipment are used to prepare dispersions. The first, the coUoid mill, does not effect a particle size reduction but does break down aggregates of fine particles. CoUoid mills are used for such powders as clays, precipitated whiting, etc. Sometimes these mills are used to process zinc oxide but for dipped mbber products that is not satisfactory. [Pg.257]

Acid cleaners based on sulfamic acid are used in a large variety of appHcations, eg, air-conditioning systems marine equipment, including salt water stills wells (water, oil, and gas) household equipment, eg, copper-ware, steam irons, humidifiers, dishwashers, toilet bowls, and brick and other masonry tartar removal of false teeth (50) dairy equipment, eg, pasteurizers, evaporators, preheaters, and storage tanks industrial boilers, condensers, heat exchangers, and preheaters food-processing equipment brewery equipment (see Beer) sugar evaporators and paper-mill equipment (see also Evaporation Metal surface treati nts Pulp). [Pg.64]

The micas, as a class, are difficult to grind to a fine powder one exception is disintegrated schist, in which the mica occurs in minute flakes. For diy grinmng, hammer mills equipped with an air-transport system are generally used. Maintenance is often high. It has been established that the method of milling has a definite effect on the par-... [Pg.1869]

Polyethylene can be compounded on any of the standard types of mixing equipment used for visco-elastic materials. For laboratory purposes a two-roll mill is suitable operating temperatures varying from about 90°C to about 140°C according to the type of polymer. On the industrial scale, compounding is undertaken either in internal mixers, or more particularly, extrusion compounders. [Pg.232]

The selection of mix ingredients may depend heavily on the type of adhesive applieation equipment used. The main types of equipment for plywood and LVL are roll coaters, spray systems, eurtain coaters, and foam extruders. When foam extruders are used, animal blood and surfactants are usually added to the mill mix. For other application systems, resin producers typieally supply the non-filler additives as part of the resin eomposition. [Pg.894]

Baking is currently performed by continuous operation. Modern variations involve using heated crushing or milling equipment, such as kneader dispersers or oscillating mills at approximately 200°C [9]. This technique significantly improves the reaction control over a batch process. If baking is performed by continuous process, phthalonitrile only remains within the reaction vessel for a very short period of time (between 3 and 20 minutes). It is important to remember that the temperature may not exceed 250°C. The product which evolves from this process is usually purified by acid treatment. [Pg.426]

The apparent efficiency of the size reduction operation depends on the type of equipment used. Thus, for instance, a ball mill is rather less efficient than a drop weight type of crusher because of the ineffective collisions that take place in the ball mill. [Pg.103]

This drawback can be at least partially eliminated by blending PLLA with other polymers (26-29). In addition, ABS has been used for blending (30). The blends were prepared laboratory mill equipped with a twin-screw. It turned out that uncompatibilized blends of PLLA and ABS have a morphology with big phase size and a weak interface. The blends exhibit poor mechanical properties with low elongation at break and decreased impact strength. [Pg.223]

ATTRITION MILLS. Equipment of this type is used in the process industries to reduce the size of various feeds. Attrition connotes a rubbing action, although this action usually is combined with other forces, including shear and impact. Attrition mills also are referred to as disk mills and normally comprise two vertical disks mounted on horizontal shafts, with adjustable clearance between the vertical disks. In some designs, one vertical disk may be stationary. In other designs, the two vertical disks... [Pg.160]
