Many small laboratories use kitchen cabinets, also available in wood or steel, and are quite happy with them. Normal prices of high quality kitchen cabinets are not much lower than those of the laboratory variety, but special bargains are often available. They come in far fewer types of units, which make the laboratory benches less adaptable to specific uses. Finishes are not made to resist chemicals, and the overall construction is seldom of the heavy-duty type. In a microbiological laboratory where they have been used for years, however, workers have been pleased with them. They were adequate for the light duty service and were purchased when a local dealer had a clearance sale.

Since only a few microbiological laboratory has the equipment to standardize these parameters it is not intended to fix these parameters in the standard. 

Laboratory data may consist of many different collections of tests, such as ECG laboratory tests, microbiologic laboratory tests, and other therapeutic-indication-specific clinical lab tests. However, laboratory data traditionally consist of results from urinalysis, hematology, and blood chemistry tests. Traditional laboratory data can come from what are called local laboratories, which are labs at the clinical site, or from central laboratories where the clinical sites send their samples for analysis. Often when the laboratory data come from a central laboratory, there is no physical CRF page for the data and they are loaded into the clinical data management system directly from an electronic file. The Marine Biotechnology Institute (MBI) was founded in 1987 for the study and applications of biodiversity in marine environments.
