Metalworking oils

Lubricating oils are also used in industrial and process appHcations such as hydrauhc and turbine oils, machine oil and grease, marine and railroad diesel, and metalworking oils. Process oils are used in the manufacture of mbber, textiles, leather, and electrical goods. The distribution of lube oils used in these apphcations in 1992 is as follows automotive, 45711 industrial, 2229 t and process, 1070 t (- SIS, 000 gal) (11). [Pg.367]

Is a moderately lipophilic emulsifier and lubricant. It is used as a co-emulsifier for metalworking oils and hydraulic fluids. In textiles it is used as a component in leveling and dispersing agents for vat and naphthol dyes, and as a co-emulsifier for rayon delusterants and fiber lubricants. HLB 8.6... [Pg.366]

Some more modern semi-synthetic metalworking oils are actually O/W microemulsions [21]. Such microemulsions may switch readily to O/W macroemulsions when diluted with water at the time of application. Once applied, the surfactants need to adsorb onto metal surfaces with their hydrophobic groups oriented away from the surfaces in order to reduce friction and ensure wetting of the metal by hydrocarbons present in the metalworking hquid or emulsion. Rosen and Dahanayake [21] hst the commonly used surfactants for this apphcation. [Pg.389]
