Lubricants coating

Used industrially in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals, textile chemicals, adhesives, binders, petroleum refining chemicals, fuels, lubricants, coating resins, varnishes, polymerizations, lacquers, agricultural chemicals, cosmetics, ion exchange resins, photographic chemicals, surfactants used in the paper industry and as a flocculation aid. 

Iron(II) sulfide occurs in nature as the minerals magnetkies, troilhte and pyrrhotine. The most important application of this compound is in Kipp s apparatus as a source for laboratory preparation of hydrogen sulfide. It also is used in paints, pigments, and ceramics and lubricant coatings.

The Dow Chemical Company, Castor Oil, Inc., and the USD A Western Regional Research Center are collaborating to develop the castor plant as a suitable oilseed for specialty oils that can be converted into lubricants, coatings, foams, adhesives, and engineering thermoplastics. Castor oil already contains ricinoleic acid, a fatty acid used in many industrial applications, but project partners hope to produce other industrially desirable fatty acids within the castor bean. 

More complex ceramic binders have been used, but in general the detailed composition of the binder has not been described. One very complex one consisting basically of molybdenum disulphide in silica, had the composition in Table 11.4. Molybdenum disulphide has also been incorporated in fused-fluoride lubricant coatings to improve their properties at temperatures below 500°C. In tests over 450°C in air the molybdenum disulphide was effective for one test, but was then no longer available because of oxidation. However, such coatings would presumably have useful lives at high temperature in vacuum or inert atmosphere. 

Where required machine life is greater than anticipated lubricant coating life, there should be facility for easy replacement of coated components.
