Several MOFs as UIO-66, UIO-ee-NH, Mg-MOF-74, MIL-101, CuBTC, ZIF-8, IRMOF-3, and MOF-5 with different acid-base properties were tested as catalysts for the synthesis of styrene carbonate (SC) from styrene oxide (SO) with CO using a high-pressure batch reactor [116]. 

The catalytic activities were found to be well correlated with the Lewis acid-base properties. UIO-66-NH2 showed the highest catalytic activity among the investigated MOFs-based materials with a maximum of 96% Ygj, obtained at 100°C, 20 bar after 4 h in the presence of chlorobenzene as solvent. Nevertheless the contribution of homogeneous reaction cannot be excluded in this case. 

The first MOF membranes were reported in 2009 by the Lai and Jeong groups [57,58]. Like zeolite, fabrication of thin films of crystalline framework materials follows one of two approaches in-situ growth and secondary or seeded growth [59]. 

In-situ growth Substrate is immersed in the growth solution without any crystals previously attached to the surface, and during the fabrication, nucleation, growth, and intergrowth of crystals on the substrate will happen. 

Secondary or seeded growth This refers to film growth from preattached seed crystals. The advantage of this method is to make tailored membrane. 

However, other methods for the fabrication of MOF membranes are reported, such as chemical modification of the support surfaces with self-assembled monolayer [60].

In order to locate metal organic frameworks (MOFs) on the map of the technologies used for C02 capture applications, we will briefly describe the major technologies that have been employed and discuss their advantages and limitations. Figure 1 shows the different technologies used for C02 capture, whereas MOFs are used under the category of membranes and adsorbents.
