Red Phosphorus. This aHotropic form of phosphoms is relatively nontoxic and, unlike white phosphoms, is not spontaneously flammable. Red phosphoms is, however, easily ignited. It is a polymeric form of phosphoms having thermal stabiUty up to ca 450°C. In finely divided form it has been found to be a powerful flame-retardant additive (26,45—47). In Europe, it has found commercial use ia molded nylon electrical parts ia a coated and stabilized form. Handling hazards and color have deterred broad usage. The development of a series of masterbatches by Albright Wilson should facihtate further use. [Pg.476]

Pigments are classified by an internationally recognised convention, published in the International Colour Index by the Society of Dyers and Colourists in Bradford, in association with the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists. The Index issues a generic name to chemically identical products (e.g., titanium dioxide is classified as C.I. Pigment White 6). Where structures are known, pigments are also given a constitution number (e.g., titanium dioxide has the constitution number Cl 77891).This number is reserved for the essential colorant, other ingredients, such as the carriers used in a masterbatch, do not affect this classification. [Pg.18]

The extrudate samples and the solidification experiment clearly show the importance of the melting process on the mixing quality of the extruder discharge. The cases shown here are for color masterbatches in natural or white resins, but the concept applies to any solid mixture or blend added to the hopper of an extruder. Color masterbatches were used here because it is much easier to visualize than other compositional variations or thermal gradients. [Pg.352]

A Maddock solidification experiment was performed using ABS resin at a screw speed of 60 rpm [30]. Like the solidification experiment for the ET screw of Section 14.2.2, the feedstock resin contained 2% Ti02 compounded into the pellets, and a black-colored masterbatch was added at a letdown ratio of about 220 1. The cross-sectional views of the resin solidified in the channels are shown by Eig. 14.15. The white pellets and unmixed resin are visible in the views as white regions. The regions that are well mixed are an evenly colored dark or black color. [Pg.643]

In-process controls for the reduction of wastewater flows and loads for emulsion crumb mbber plants include recycling of finishing line wastewaters and steam stripping of heavy monomer decanter wastewater. Recycling of finishing line wastewater occurs at nearly all emulsion crumb plants with the percent recycle depending primarily upon the desired final properties of the crumb. Approximately 75% recycle is an achievable rate, with recycle for white masterbatch crumb below this level and that for black masterbatch crumb exceeding it. [Pg.563]

Ampacet launches improved white masterbatch, celebrates 20 years in Europe Addit Polym [trade journal—Elsevier] April 2007. [Pg.258]

The natural color of this material is an opaque, yellowish white but it is not often seen as this. Usually supplied in fully compounded form in a number of opaque shades which may be formulated to suit a particular type of use, for example, outdoor use. If dry colorants, or masterbatches, are to be blended with the natural polymer then, the selection of pigment type is important (so as not to damage the weather resistant property of ASA). It is for this reason that material suppliers prefer to supply the material in the compounded form. [Pg.94]

Red phosphorus can be handled by encapsulating it in a thermosetting polymer with a dust suppressant, but for safety reasons it is usually supplied as a masterbatch for compounding by conventional means. The raw element is susceptible to ignition by sparks or by overheating, although it is not spontaneously flammable like the white variety. If exposed to moisture, it releases toxic phosphine that tends to be converted to phosphate. Light coloured products cannot cmrently be achieved with red phosphorus flame retardant additives. [Pg.55]

White masterbatch is produced typically with 50-7 5% additives, for let-down at 3-4% (film), 1-2% (universal grades), and 3% (blow and injection moulding). [Pg.82]

Ampacet has also introduced a range of controlled rheology white masterbatch (11989-1), for blown and cast film and extrusion coating. New masterbatches for Dow s new Affinity polyolefins have been introduced, plus a new generation of EBS-based anti-slip/anti-block masterbatch, for high EVA content resins. [Pg.83]

A sheet from Royalite is based on an anti-microbial masterbatch, Actifresh -initially with high impact polystyrene and polypropylene sheet incorporating Actifresh - for applications in food processing, white goods and bathroom products, but to be extended as demand increases for formed sheet in applications where fungus or germ propagation is a problem. [Pg.221]

As the natural color of the material is an off-white then a wide color range is possible this does not include transparent colors. Sold in both compounded colors and as nattu material for coloring on the injection molding machine by techniques such as dry coloring, masterbatching and liquid coloring. [Pg.78]
